She met her future husband, Leo K. Barber, in 1935 and married him in 1936. They settled in Chicago and lived there surrounded by a doting family until Leo went into the U.S. Army in January 1944.
Eleanore is survived by her three children: Son Gary and his wife Sharon, daughter Susan and her husband W. D. Gregory, and son Michael. Eight Grandchildren: Douglas Gregory and wife Shelley, Bryan Gregory and wife Dannett, Phillip Gregory and wife Cyndi, Shauna Parker and husband Edward, Michael Barber and wife Melissa, and Shelley Clark and husband Jeff, and Matthew Barber. Plus numerous Great Grandchildren.
Eleanore was of that great generation of women and parents that experienced the anguish, hope and joy of loved ones in the military in WWII during a time of far-away battles and uncertainty. Her husband Leo returned as a wounded warrior, but he recovered and they were married for over 72 years, Leo having preceded her in death in late 2009.
Eleanore and Leo, along with their two children, settled in Dallas, Texas where Leo went into business with his brother. Another son came along in 1949.
Eleanore was vivacious and outgoing. All who knew her were captivated by her charm and uncommonly good nature. She was very active in Texas State politics and always a willing worker and participator in State and Local political races. She was also active in The Book Club and Garden Club with friends and associates from her Church and neighborhood. Her faith in Christ remained strong throughout her life as a testimony to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by all in the circles in which she moved. She and Leo were members of Lakeside Baptist Church in Dallas for many years and were active in the affairs and missions of the Church and will be sorely missed in the Christian community by her many friends and acquaintances.
In February 2007 Eleanore and Leo moved to Sherman, Texas into the Pecan Point Assisted Living and Memory Care Unit.
