She was born on April 7, 1969 in Dallas, Texas to Kenneth J. and Julia A. Mighell. As a Drama graduate from Texas Tech University, Betsy moved to Los Angeles in 1993 to pursue a career in acting, and was a member of the acclaimed improv company The Groundlings for a number of years. She spent more than twenty years working in the food and beverage industry in Santa Monica, as bartender, co-owner of a catering business, and in various restaurant management positions.
Betsy was a people person, which made her a natural for the restaurant business; she had a generous and loving soul, and a smile, hug, or words of encouragement for everyone she met. Betsy was fortunate to have not one but two families, including her LA/Main Street family in California that loved her so very much.
Betsy is survived by her father and mother, Ken and Judy Mighell of Dallas, Texas, her brother and brother-in-law, Tom Mighell and Kenny Coupel, also of Dallas, and aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Dallas area and across the country.
A memorial service will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 4:00 P.M., with a reception to follow in the L.N. Sparkman Family Lounge.
Betsy’s LA/Main Street family will hold a memorial on April 26 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm at Areal Restaurant, 2820 Main Street, Santa Monica, California.
