I have known Elizabeth as the roommate to the Magda Sandor for probably close to 40 years.  I always saw her as I visited grandma Sandor.  She was always pleasant and had a long history starting as a teen in WWII.

As she moved to Oak Ciff I would see her occasionally but when she moved to the nursing home it became easier to visit as South Oak Cliff High School (SOC) where I do volunteer work was very close to the nursing home.

Elizabeth was always smiling and very happy to see me.  We frequently visited as I went to SOC and went see her on the way to or from.  She seemed very interested in the work I was doing to motivate students for higher achievement.

I already miss going to visit her. She was a very good person.  She will rest in peace.

Elizabeth Hoyle was more than a friend to our family—she was family. For decades, she was one of my grandmother’s dearest friends and roommate, and over the years, she became just as dear to us. She was the kind of person who made everyone feel welcome, not just with her words, but with her actions.

For over a decade, when my wife and I would come to Sunday lunch, she would make a special vegetarian soup just for us while everyone else had chicken soup. She didn’t have to—but she did. That simple act of kindness was just one of countless ways she showed love and generosity to those around her.

When she came to live with my mother, Rachel spent a lot of time with her while my mom and I were on vacation. They grew close during that time, sharing stories, laughter, and long conversations. They did puzzles together, and Elizabeth would tell Rachel stories from her youth—memories that Rachel cherishes deeply. Those were special times that highlighted just how warm, thoughtful, and engaging Elizabeth was.

Life wasn’t always easy for Elizabeth, but she never let hardships dim her kind and giving spirit. She carried herself with grace, always putting others before herself. Her warmth, her kindness, and her unwavering friendship will be deeply missed, but we will always cherish the love and memories she shared with us.

Rest in peace, Elizabeth. You were truly one of a kind.

I had the privilege of meeting Elizabeth as a neighbor in 2018 and immediately felt her warmth and welcome. Over the past several years, I came to know her as someone I would like to emulate as I approach my 80's. Her spirit was so strong, her appreciation of life was inspiring, and the way she lit up and opened her heart and smiled that beautiful smile will stay with me forever. She understood things with a wisdom that was reflected by the quotes in her remembrance video. Fare thee well, Elizabeth, until we meet again.

It would be easy to say I think of her when I think of travelling. Because she'd always come to visit, then leave, then come again. And it had been like this for as long as I could remember, for as long as I had memories. Sometimes we chatted on the phone, but mostly it was this dance: she'd come to visit, we'd travel together, she'd visit again, then leave again. By boat, by plane, by train, and by car. 
Yet, what comes to my mind is not the travelling, but the homecoming. She would come to Budapest often, travel far and wide, but to me, she was truly at home in Ditró, her birthplace. After 12-13 hours of driving, she'd still have the energy to take a walk, to show me her childhood home, to tell stories of the olden days—where the cows used to graze, which house Aunt Márika lived in. 
When I'd return for her a few weeks later, to set off on another journey, it was so lovely to see her peaceful, content face. And that is what I remember. I can hardly believe that she's gone.
But I know that, in the end, she found her way home.

I met you 54 years ago, now I am 62, many years have passed, it was always a pleasure for us when you visited me, we spent nice days and months together, you were always pleasant, kind, good tempered and helpful. We went on a lot of excursions with my little brother and your siblings, you always made a good mood, you loved to belong to your homeland, unfortunately, your brothers have already left us, until we meet up there. Me and our little family always think of you with gratitude and thanks. May God take care of you, rest in peace. We say hello to aunt Magda Meryi and everyone who took care of you on your earthly journey, we wish good health to everyone from far away, we say goodbye with a couple of pictures. Good bye....

My heart is heavy as we say goodbye to our beloved Erzsi néni, yet I find comfort in the beautiful memories we shared across continents and generations. She was truly remarkable, blessing us with nearly a century of love, strength, and wisdom.

I always cherished her near yearly visits to Budapest and Ditró – each visit she brought her fascinating stories and memories of life in the US and the UK. She had this wonderful way of making history come alive through her personal experiences.

I feel especially grateful for the time I spent with her in Dallas, where she proudly showed me her world – her neighborhood, her cherished church communities, and the life she had built there.

I particularly admired Elizabeth’s incredible resilience. Despite the challenges life presented, she never surrendered her spirit or her faith. She showed us what true strength looks like – not in the absence of hardship, but in how one faces it with grace and determination.

As she finds her eternal rest in heaven, I know her legacy lives on in all the lives she touched, the stories she shared, and the love she gave so generously. She taught us that distance need not divide us, and that family bonds can stretch across oceans without breaking.

May she rest in peace, knowing she was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

Elizabeth was a very kind and giving soul.   I first met her around 1979.   She worked for Sky Chefs (in flight catering for American Airlines) for many years.   That is where she met my mother who also worked there.  She was a great seamstress and loved to make quilts.
She loved to fly back to visit her family in Germany, Hungary, and Romania.
RIP Erzsi neni.
