

Mrs. Ella Mae Pettigrew Hargest was born October 31, 1929, in Tyler, Texas, to the union of Eldis Pettigrew and Celesta Rowe; and to this union four children were born. She attended Emmett Scott High School and Butler College. Ella found the love of her life, Mr. Duran E. Hargest, and to this union three children were born. She worked for years as a cook in the Dallas Independent School District and also as a housekeeper. Before moving to the Oak Cliff area, she was an active member of Pages Temple Church of God In Christ; after which she became an active member of the Clark Road Church of Christ, formerly known as Saner Street Church of Christ. Ella was a very faithful and dedicated Christian, always giving a helping hand. On Thursday, September 1, 2016, Ella was called from her labors here on earth to her home in paradise, being greeted with open arms by her parents, Celesta and Eldis; three siblings; husband, Duran E., Sr.; daughter, Marcia; and grandson, Terance. Sister Hargest will be forever loved and cherished by her daughter, Patricia (Larry) Oliver; son, Duran E. (Linda) Hargest Jr.; grandchildren: Raquel, Larry II (Brande), Duran E. III (Kimberly), Raven, Raina, Rachel, and Tamara; great-grandchildren: Kirsten, Madison, Mason, Keairra, Keenan, Breyanna, Terance, Jr., Taylor, Lauryn, and Tylen; great-great-grandchild, Anna; sisters-in-law: Alecia Pettigrew, Annie (Herman) Hargest, Shirley (Henry) Jackson, and Connie Hargest; adopted children: Gloria McCoy, Arnetta Allan, Jessie Farris, Bobby Boyce, Joyce Brown, Vivian Tasby, Beverly Armstrong, and Joan Upshaw; and longtime special friends: Julia Jordan, Temple Price, Betty Scott, Annie Anderson, Vern Smith, Wilma Hollis, and Ira Coleman.
