Linda was born in the Philippines on July 7, 1938 to Artemio and Juana Viernes Gawat. She was the second oldest of six siblings. She graduated and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Concordia College at the University of Immaculate Concepcion. In 1965, Linda was married to Priscilo Valbuena Janolo on June 17, 1965; they were married 59 years.
In 1968, Linda immigrated to the United States to work as a Registered Nurse for Parkland Memorial Hospital on the post-partum ward and later in maternal-fetal care before retirement. Nilo and Linda bought their first home in Dallas near Love Field airport, and there they used to park alongside the street near the airstrip to watch the planes land. In 1970, they purchased their second home and moved to Irving. There they raised their two children Laurie and Art. In the 70’s, she was an avid bowler and was in a women’s bowling league where she won numerous trophies. Linda and Nilo lived an outgoing social life. On the weekends she also enjoyed fishing with her family and friends at Lake Grapevine. For exercise in the 80s, she used to love jazzercise with her daughter Laurie at the local rec center. Later her form of exercise were brisk walks at the mall with her friends. For many years, Linda became an avid collector of Barbies and Beanie Babies. She enjoyed playing the piano, karaoke, crafts, cooking, and church. She was actively involved in St. Luke’s Parish in Irving as a Eucharistic Minister. The one not to go unnoticed was Linda’s love for singing and the casino. She enjoyed karaoke with her best friends. After retirement, Linda not only loved karaoke time with her friends, but she loved to spend time with her husband at Winstar. Together they were very generous and would always share their winnings with their grandchildren whom she loved so dearly. In her mid-30’s to early 40’s she developed an auto-immune disease that attacked her ability to see. When she was still able, she loved to watch her granddaughters’ activities such as Elyssa and Megan’s band performances, Mikaela’s dance recitals and Nutcracker performances, and Maddie and Hannah’s soccer games.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents Artemio and Juana Gawat, her half-sister Rosalinda Viernes Jaber and brother-in-law Jaber, her sister Edith Viernes Gawat, brother-in-law Domingo Limos, nephew Frederick Gawad, youngest brother Rolando Viernes Gawat, and sister-in-law Marilou Gawad.
