Eryn Fayson began her mark on this world early one morning at Charlton Methodist Hospital, on April 15, 2003. She came out of the womb wailing and that was the start of how her voice was one that demanded to be heard and understood. Eryn weighed 5lbs 10oz…she’s always been a petite girl. From her fingers to her toes she was skinny and little. Her voice on the other hand was not. Eryn did things on her own terms, she didn’t crawl…she scooted. Eryn scooted on her behind until she was 18 months old. For those who aren’t as good as Eryn was at math, that’s 1 year and 6 months.
Throughout her youth, Eryn began to shape into the superhero we know her as today. A superhero that is fighter. From 4 years old Eryn didn’t take no mess from nobody. Mom and Dad would receive calls from Eryn’s Pre-K teacher, Mrs. Farr, about her biting this little boy on the daily. Little did they know the little boy had been taunting her every day and instead of her going to inform the teacher, she took matters in her own hands. She knew how to hold up her fists when odds were against her. This is a prime example of who Eryn was as a little sister, and as a friend.
As much as Eryn knew how to defend herself and the ones she loves, she also was a beast in all her classes. Eryn was an A honor roll student for most of her junior high and high school years. She made sacrifices for her education because she knew what it took to be disciplined in her work. Eryn would give up going out with friends or going to parties to complete assignments and study for tests. She took pride in her work, and through it found Theatre. In middle school Eryn transferred from West Middle School to Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy. She was accepted into the Theatre program and performed in different shows throughout that year. She liked acting, and this led to some of the best years of her life: high school.
Eryn went to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She enjoyed the creativity of style that walked the halls and the freedom to be who you are. She sported her style, so fresh and so clean. The most integral part of her style were her shoes. Eryn was a “sneakerhead.” She could tell you about all types of Jordan’s and help you coordinate your shoes with the flyest fit. Her style was effortless streetwear. Eryn came to Booker T for Theatre but she found so much more. She enjoyed being behind the scenes with set building and costume design. Her leadership skills began to flourish when she became house manager of one of the shows at Booker T. Eryn truly grew through her theatre experiences and found her true self.
In 2021, our superhero was diagnosed with Glioblastoma during her senior year of high school. She learned it was malignant and raised her fist with determination ready to conquer the battle. Her heart was filled with that same discipline and drive that were put into her academics. She exceled in life and exceled through cancer. Her fight was an entire year of ups and downs, but the ups were what Eryn and her family held onto. On June 12, 2022 Eryn transitioned to be home with her Lord and Savior and was surrounded by loved ones when she took her last breath. Our superhero’s story is not one of sadness but one of strength, hope, faith, and love. She lives within us and walks beside us…her light will never dim.
