Gene was born in Philadelphia to Milton Louis Soslow and Sarah Ligenberg who preceded him in death. He is one of two children and survived by his loving little brother Richard Soslow. After a few years in Philadelphia, the family moved to Dallas, Texas where he was a life-long resident. He was the father of three children Heather A’miel Karlovich, Aaron James Soslow, and Geoffrey Moshe Soslow. There was nothing more important to him than his family and was proud to be blessed with his three children, along with his six grandchildren Taylor, LJ, KC, Jacob, West, and Mya, and super proud to have met his 1st great grandchild, Finn. Gene was a family man, and a friend to all. His many friendships can attest to that, and he would especially want to let his many wonderful and life-long friends know how much he cared for them.
Gene graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and then went on to college and earning his Bachelor of Social Work degree. He was inspired by family with special needs, and driven by his internal need to serve others, that he immediately got to working with the autistic and special needs community. He then further supported his family working for Bag n’ Baggage as an office manager, and then on to a property management company as a property supervisor for most of his career. Volunteering and charitable giving was in his blood, even when working full-time he never neglected his drive to serve others in various social services in Dallas.
Gene was also well known for his love of music, all music, but especially Rockabilly, Blues, and Rock n’ Roll. If you had a question about the good ol’ music, he had the answer. Two of his loves, music and people came together when he joined KNON 89.3, “The Voice of the People” as Gene the Scream assisting Cowhide Cole on the Rockabilly Revue, before starting his own show, “Notes from the Underground”, playing 60’s music he loved most and serving as a board member for many years both at the station, and on the Dallas political scene.
“Keep the faith”, he would say after every show, and he lived those words and would want that for everyone.
“…push yourselves past what you think are your limits…try even harder when it hurts to try; to do something righteous and productive with your lives. I have come to know that G-d didn’t put us here to waste our talents, when those lacking in talents might benefit in some way from our talents…the success is in the attempt, not the result.”
