Evelyn Ruth Lightfoot was born on July 15th 1938 the 3rd of seven children, born to Mary Boyd and George Lightfoot. Evelyn grew up on a farm and married Gerald Chamberlain months after graduating from Scurry Rosser High School in 1956, recently celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary. Together they had four children and made their home in Duncanville raising all four kids in the same house they still have today. Evelyn was an excellent cook, loved to sew, loved the color orange, butterscotch and root beer hard candy, tootsie rolls, peanut butter bars, the new blue bell oatmeal crème pie ice cream, and cantaloupe with gravy. She made the very best chocolate cake and the best turkey dressing you have ever tasted.
Evelyn loved her friends and loved her family unconditionally. Her door was always open, and she took joy in helping others. She and Gerald frequently lent a hand to those in need. Evelyn wasn’t your typical 50’s woman; she didn’t mind getting her hands dirty. She worked hard and could hold her own with the best of them, male or female. She spoke her mind and was strong willed to say the least. Before retiring from Sears, Evelyn learned to roller skate, change brakes on a car, and was able to carry a wild pet squirrel back to its cage while its teeth were still embedded in her finger.
After retirement she went on every delivery when Gerald took on a part time job driving a truck. She loved spending time with her granddaughters and each one was her favorite. She loved greatly and was greatly loved. She will be missed by all that knew her, an angel on earth and now in heaven.
