Murdell was born on Dec. 27, 1917 in Eskota, TX to her parents Norman and Ivy Weatherby. In 1935, she married Tom Holbert and hade one child together, Patricia. During the war years, Murdell worked at the Western Union in Los Angeles, CA. In 1955, she moved to Ruidoso, NM where she lived happily most of her life. She worked at Ruidoso Downs as a bookkeeper for the Jockey Club. After retirement, she moved to El Paso to take care of her mother.
Murdell is survived by her daughter, Patricia Thomas, of La Verne, CA.; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Tom and her brother Lee Weatherby.
Murdell will be buried on Dec. 2, 2017 at Hillcrest Mausoleum & Memorial Park in Dallas. A Celebration of Life is being planned in mid-December at the Monte Vista where she lived the last years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Murdell’s name to Mid-America Nazarene University: Weatherby Chapel or the Alzheimer’s Association.
