To Flo and the rest of the Halovanic family..I'm so sorry to learn of Frank's passing.  I remember him asking about my father (soon before his passing.)  My father and him enjoyed each other's garage sales, looking for tools!  Such a good neighbor, 45+ years!  

Prayers for the whole family.  It's so difficult to lose a loved one.

You were a great, honest and righous man Mr. Halovanic.  God has you now.  May you rest in peace for eternity.  And to the family, I'm deeply sorry for your loss. Hebrews 11:11.

I am in Dallas on business and  saw Mr Halovanic's obituary.
My father, Buzzy DeLuca, always spoke fondly of Fish and the friendship they enjoyed while living on Theresa Drive and the adventures they encountered in the painting business.

Dear Flo and family..I'm so sorry to hear of Fish's passing.What memories I have of him and all of you from my childhood at Uncle Joe's. Those are the best memories of my childhood. Can you just imagine the gathering in Heaven of Fish and all those who preceded him! What a reunion! And just in time for some of those gag Christmas gifts. Oh to be a fly on that wall!
I wish all of you peace at this time and always. My prayers are with you.

Pat and I will miss Frank dearly at St. Monica's Church. It was alwas a pleasure to see his familiar smiling face at Mass as he recognized us while carrying out his church duties, knowing that my daughter Veronica was almost related to the family. Mass will just not be completely the same at St Monica without Frank with his family! My prayers will go out to Frank and his entire family.

I met Frank 20 years ago, through the harmonica club.  Our shared interest in the instrument was our connection. Our styles were so different, but we found common ground.  I truly admired his proficiency and choice of material.  I too, like Bruce, Ann, and others, perform the songs he made us aware of. He probably chuckles at the fact that I now play the chromatic, his absolute favorite, much more than the diatonic. 
I am also very glad that I have met his son John, and his gracious wife Florence,through this connection. 
The thing that impressed me most, was his ability to get his family members, John and John John, to become excellent harmonica players. I will never forget him, and he is an inspiration.  He was the real deal.

PS Here are a few anecdotes

When we met, I showed him my collection of harmonicas.  He was so excited to see my key of C Chordomica, that I had to give it to him for a song. 
When I got a job performing for the musical, Big River, he let me borrow his expensive Bass harmonica for the novelty number.
He taught me his trick for intense articulation on single notes out in the Richland Parking lot after meetings.
When we held SPAH 2002 here, I made two different pieces of artwork for it.  Don Sanders liked the Campfire Scene, and Frank liked the Harmonica Skyline.  We went with the Harmonica skyline for the T-Shirts, and I am pretty sure he fronted the money for the printing, and ran down to the shop for pick-up too.

My deepest sympathy to the entire Halovanic family.  I remember "Fish" from my early childhood years at Uncle Joe's (Flo's father)  to my visit to Dallas several years ago where the entire family greeted us with open arms and welcomed us into their homes.  Flo, my godmother, always made me feel special.  I will always hold a special place in my heart for you and your family.  I am sad that Fish is no longer with us but I know he has a special place in Heaven.

Flo, Frank, Cathy, and all the family, my deepest sympathy.  Mr Halovanic was a true gentleman, always smiling, always waving when he would drive by or see me walking my dogs.  He was a presence always for all of us in Chapel Downs!  and Always so kind to all at St.Monica's.  I am keeping each if you in my prayers.  As well as you Nicole, Nick and Joe....you had a fabulous Grandpap, I know he will be missed.

I've seen some great tributes to Mr. Halovanic coming from friends of my youth, who your family, as they did with us, always befriended, friends in music, friends of your family and friends of his musical family. I know of no greater tribute for a man than to be loved as a friend and family. Mr. Halovanic was both and I have no doubt that legacy will continue on through all of you as it has for so many years.

As you have supported us in our times of loss please know that we are here now here for you. We are with you all in prayer at this solemn time. May the holy Spirit bring you comfort, compassion and understanding and let choirs of Angels welcome him and his music to heaven. A command performance of his Ave Maria no doubt being scheduled.  Our creator may reclaim the soul of those he has graced our lives with but He does not, and cannot reclaim the spirit of the man and the memories and lessons he has taught us. May your grief be short and loving memories long and heart warming.

Flo, our prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.  Stan, Meredith and I were very fond of Frank.  He was an inspiration to many and will be solrely missed.

I've known Frank for about a year now through HOOT and was beginning to learn some valuable chromatic harmonica tips from this master, who was very willing to share what he knows, when he became ill this last time. Sorry I didn't get to know you longer, Frank. RIP

We will really miss Frank at the HOOT meetings.  He was a great harmonica player and a sweet friend.

I remember Frank as an usher at St. Monica.  The job suited him so well.  His usher career started when I "volunteered" him for the job.  Sometimes I make the right choices.  Frank will be missed.

Hi, Frank.  
 Well, you've done it.  You left us and are now on your way to a much better place.  But, before you go, could we visit just one last time?
 Do you remember my first visit to HOOT nearly four years ago?  Probably not, but I do.  Then, I was trying to re-learn everything I had forgotten about the harmonica after not playing for 25 years.  So, I stumbled through "Sentimental Journey" at open mic time, and when the meeting was over, you introduced yourself and began giving me tips on harmonica playing.
 "Who is this guy?" I thought to myself. But somehow I knew I should listen to you. 
 You complimented me on my playing then remarked, "We always played that tune in C#.  Why don't you try it and see what you think?" Then you opened your stainless steel carrying case that contained three or four harmonicas, a set of small tools, some spare parts and two of your CDs (which I promptly purchased).
 "Try playing it in octaves, too.  You do it like this," you said, as you took out a 16-hole mouthpiece to demonstrate proper tongue blocking techniques.  We talked for a long time and I learned so much that I couldn't wait until the next HOOT meeting.
 You probably don't remember that second meeting either.  When you saw me coming through the door, you greeted me with a warm smile and a "Welcome back, Jerry.  I saved you a place."  You motioned to the empty chair next to yours and said "Come sit here."  We had a great meeting that night and afterwards, you answered more of my questions and gave me more playing tips.  
 Frank, you have always been a good friend to me.  I will treasure forever all the help you've given me over the past four years.  But, you have always been willing to help anyone who you felt was serious about learning.  I've heard you say many times, "There is a wealth of beautiful music trapped in this little instrument for those who are serious about letting it out".  The harmonica is your passion and you passed that passion on to me.  
 Do you remember the times I visited you in your home?  You knew many of the big names in the harmonica world and had endless stories about them.  You told me about the weekly rehearsals of the Dallas Harmonica Trio around your kitchen table and about how Channel 8 came over to do a story and videotaped the sessions from outside through the window.  You loaned me most of your harmonica records and tapes so I could record them.  It took weeks, but I got it done.  You gave me many, many TAB sheets so I could learn the music you loved.  Of course, I have listened to the Trio's CDs many, many times.  I have enjoyed all of it!
 Yeah, I know you've got to be going.  I can't really blame you for wanting to because I know the music there will be more beautiful than any we have ever heard!  I'll bet there is a gathering of saints and angels waiting for your arrival so that they can receive their lessons on how to play our favorite little instrument.  Don't forget to take your harmonica case... and extra mouthpiece, so you can show 'em how to play those octaves.  
 Although you're leaving a void in my life, there would have been an even greater one if I had never met you and your beautiful wife, Flo.  I was never a stranger to either of you!
 So long, Frank.  I will miss you terribly!

I grew up with the Halovanic family.  Janet was my childhood best friend and Mr. and Mrs. Halovanic were very close to my parents.  I spent many, many days at their home playing and hanging out and trying to not get into trouble.  However, I didn't always succeed in that endeavor.    

I remember with fondness the love they shared amongst themselves and with their friends and neighbors.  Sure there were sibling rivalries and childhood spats, but you could tell how close the family was.  And that love started with Frank and Flo.   

Mr. and Mrs. Halovanic were always the first to reach out and offer help if someone was having difficulties.   When my own parents were ill prior to their passing, Frank and Flo were one of the few who came to visit and offer support.  It meant a lot to my family and myself.

Although our paths in life have drifted apart, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.  May God welcome Frank Halovanic into His open arms and give him eternal life in heaven.   And may He give strength to Flo, Frank Jr., Janet, Danny and John and their families.  

I can hear Frank playing the "harp", as the harmonica is sometimes called,  with the angels.  Such sweet music......

Although I never met Frank Sr. I feel as though I know him through Frank and Cathy, his grandkids Nicole, Nick and Joe, and other family who share the grief over his passing and the relief of his suffering.
This man served his country, he was a devoted husband, he raised a wonderful family, and he shared his God given musical abilities. His work ethic is described as second to none.  He worshipped and served our Lord and Savior. 
While listening to stories about Mr. Halovanic, you can see the expressions of love and respect on the faces of the family telling them.
It is obvious Mr. Frank Halovanic Sr. was A Real Man. His intelligence, character, strength, and spirit were unquestionable. A Real Man does not have to speak of his honor and courage, it is demonstrated in his life. This was the type of man we need more of. A Real Man, who lived by example.
My prayer: Godspeed to you Mr. Halovanic.
My sympathy and concern are for the Halovanic's, Neinhiser's, and the rest of us who struggle in this life.  The world has lost a good man, A Real Man.

I was introduced to Frank at an SPAH convention some years back by my brother, Robert Berta of Hampden MA, who is also deceased. Frank and the trio were simply great to me and I so enjoyed their music. His son John was very helpful when I won a compact chord at a convention. Trying to give me some quick pointers on chord playing. However like Frank I have some lung problems and am trying to get back to playing again. Frank would sit down with me and talk ceaselessly about playing. It was a big love with him and it showed. In conclusion I have always felt close to the TEXAS TRIO even though I wasn't always right about who was Jerl and who was his brother. It was a big joke to them.

I have known Frank most of my life, my family and I were blessed to have the Halovanic family as neighbors and good, good friends for over 45 years!
Some of my favorite memories are of the parties our families shared together over the years, I can still hear his harmonica in the back of my mind. 
This wonderful man and his family made a great impression on me as a child, what true friendship is all about. Even if time and miles have separated us, our memories tie us together. 
You will be greatly missed, good friend and neighbor... thank you for your joyful presence in my life.

I first met Frank Halovanic after I posted an ad in the DMN, “ Harmonica Players, Know One , Are One”. He was the first one to call . I told him that I was forming a Harmonica Club called HOOT and he was beside himself. He was a great leader in the club and everyone looked up to Frank . He would spend hours giving what he knew about the harmonica to anyone who needed help. He taught me so much about the love of the instrument , not only the diatonic but all Harmonicas. It was actually my first introduction to other harmonicas. His dream was to form a harmonica trio, like the Harmonicats and the like, and John wanted that also because so many times Frank and Flo would be at a party and he'd call John to bring his chord harp to the party so Frank could play a number or two. In time , they asked me to play bass with them and I told Frank that if he found a good deal on a bass I'd give it a shot. Well, that didn't take long and I found myself fumbling around on the bass that he found for me. Not long after that , Frank said that he was asked to play at a party at a restaurant in Lakewood  Center and wanted me to join him and John. I reluctantly got up and butchered a number or two and totally embarrassed . I told them that I would never again get up to perform like that unless we rehearsed. That started our every Wednesday night rehearsals and we did it religiously. After a while we had gigs now and then , a church in Grand Prairie, Uncle Calvins, Dallas Harmonica Blowoffs in Deep Ellem, Retirements centers, More church functions, road trips, to other HOOT chapters, Antones Blues Club in Austin, Salado motor home park , now that was a doozy. And many others , but I don't think any of them could match the National Harmonica conventions SPAH where we performed in front of the best harmonica players in the world , and where it was jammed packed with other trio style groups. 
And the funny thing about all this is that none of us could read a note of music. Frank knew so many songs that we never touched . John and I would go home and practice until we worked our parts out them we'd bring it together and that's when the magic would happen. 
We recorded two CD's and was thinking about the third. Oh if we had only started a few years earlier. It was great! We never had a cross word and we all loved each other so much for fulfilling the dream . And as Frank always said “ Keeping The Sound Alive”..
