Gamaliel Ortiz, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on November 26, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on June 23, 1959, in La Tapona, Mexquitic de Carmona, Mexico, to Josefina Gomez and Benjamin Ortiz, Gamaliel spent his early years in Nuevo Laredo Tamaulipas, Mexico. He began working at a young age to help support his family and care for his younger siblings. At the age of 17, he immigrated to Dallas, Texas, where he would build a life and legacy.
For many years, Gamaliel worked in road construction, initially as a laborer and later as a heavy equipment operator. His last position was as a construction machine mechanic. Known for his hard work and dedication, he endured long and extended hours in all weather conditions, particularly the extreme heat characteristic of Texas.
In 1980, Gamaliel married Maria Carmen Martinez. Together, they raised a loving family, including their children: Elizabeth and Corey Garcia, Maria Lourdes and Jose Celestino Sanchez, Gamaliel and Maria Carmelita Ortiz, Karla and Antonio Hernandez, and Javier Ortiz. He was also a proud grandfather to Aracely, Ruben, Osvaldo, Rosemary, Leslie, Rogelio, Leo, Elena, Edith, Edwin, and Mateo. Gamaliel is survived by his brothers and sisters, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In 2012, after a successful bypass surgery, Gamaliel suffered a severe stroke that left him immobile and required around-the-clock care from his loved ones. Despite these challenges, he remained a wonderful example of strength and resilience for 13 years.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and relatives who have supported them throughout the years. Your love and encouragement have been invaluable.
