Gary attended St. Anthony Catholic School and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1972 in Dallas, Texas.
Gary served enlisted into the United States Army right after high school and was honorably discharged on December 9, 1975.
Gary was united in holy matrimony on July 26, 1976, to Jackie D. Thorne and to this union one daughter was born, Cherita L. Thorne.
Gary attended Griggs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. He was a faithful member where he served on the Men's Usher Board. He stood at the door and greeted everyone with a big smile. He was always willing to help out where he could on all of the usher boards.
Gary will truly be missed for being an amazing husband, father, and friend. He always went out of his way to help anyone in need. He would give out big hugs, or jump from behind someone to scare them, or even give them an annoying nickname. Although Gary was a private person, he would always call, check up on, and keep in touch with his childhood friends, high school classmates and former coworkers. He would always send prayers and positive texts to brighten someone's day. The only time you could not reach him was when he was watching his favorite team or as he would call them, the "Sorry" Dallas Cowboys.
Gary is survived by his wife; Jackie D. Thorne, his daughter; Cherita L. Thorne, sister in law; Patricia Johnson, nieces; Pacis R. Higgs, Rislawn James, great niece and nephews; Trinity, Justin, Kyren, and a host of cousins and other relatives.
I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.
