It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Braslavsky, a beloved husband, loving father and a doting grandfather. He passed away peacefully on November 30th, 2025, in Dallas, TX at the age of 93.
Born in Odessa, Ukraine on February 1st, 1932, Garik, as he was known to all his friends, lived a very colorful life, traveled to many places, and told wonderful stories filled with vivid details which would bring decades-old events and people to life, as if they were shown on a movie screen.
In 1961, Garik met the love of his life, his wife Lilya. Their son, Igor, was born in 1962. During his years in the Soviet Union, George worked as a mechanical engineer, but his real love was performing comedy skits on stage. It was his evening job, and together with his partner, he became a well-known artist, touring around Ukraine and many other Soviet republics.
After immigrating with his family to the United States in 1976, George worked for many years as a draftsman and a mechanical engineer. He never went back to performing on stage, but he was always delighting his friends and relatives with his humor, his love of life and his wonderful stories.
George loved art. One of his hobbies was collecting wonderful books from famous art galleries around the world. He taught himself how to paint, and for years, enjoyed creating marvelous oil paintings. He loved photography and put together many albums with the photos he took, and the postcards and other mementos from the places he and Lilya visited.
George absolutely adored his grandson Ari. He built airplanes for Ari, made out of paper, cardboard, nuts, bolts, and anything else he could find in a storage closet, which he dubbed “his Klondike”. Before every New Year’s, George would spend endless hours building “Ari’s Village”, an elaborate collection of fancy houses complete with lighting, and snow-covered streets filled with trees, toy cars, animals and people.
His smile, engaging personality and sense of humor made it easy for George to meet people and make many friends throughout his life’s journey. His passing left a void in our hearts and we miss him dearly.
George is survived by his wife Lilya, his son Igor and his grandson Ari. He is also survived by his younger brother Vsevolod.
