George Kelley Fling was born on April 17, 1932 in San Antonio, Texas. His father was a principal of an Industrial Arts Vocational High School, and his mother was a secretary to a prominent San Antonio judge.
Kelley attended Texas A&M University. He earned his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and entered the U.S. army as a Lieutenant.
He was stationed at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey. He met his wife Aldone there, who was working on the base as a draftsman. Kelley was transferred to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs. Aldone was transferred to the headquarters of the Air Defense Command in Colorado Springs.
After discharge from the army they moved to Dallas Tx. Where Kelley worked at LTV an aerospace company, as a Mechanical Engineer with a specialty in hydraulics. While there, Kelley earned his Master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He also passed his knowledge on to the next generation as a teacher of hydraulics and pneumatics at Richland College.
Kelley and Aldone raised two children in Dallas: a son, Brian, who became a Manufacturing Engineer and a daughter, Karen, who became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a mother of four beautiful children.
Kelley enjoyed the soap box derby with his son Brian who won the Dallas Championship. Kelley was a talented photographer. His favorite subjects, his grandchildren, premiered in the family’s extensive photo slideshows.
He was a wonderful father, father in law, and grandfather and will be missed very much.
