Gerald Phil Jones (G.P.) passed away February 18, 2014 at age 75. Never having met a stranger, G.P. had the unique ability to befriend anyone he met, often those with as unique a personality as his. He grew up in Dallas, graduating from South Oak Cliff High School in 1956. He was “Daddy” to the three Jones girls, Kelly McMahan, Kim Kenley and Karen Jones, as well as “Pa” to grandson Dylan Gorman.
Driving a semi all over North America, G.P. was at home in any café, restaurant or truck stop along the way, and continued the practice of frequenting various eating establishments until the day before his death. Thinking his life would be cut short due to a brain tumor at the age of 37, he proved everyone wrong and lived almost 40 more years. He found a second home and work life at the Texas A&M Research Center, where he was famous for his monkey fruit pie at many a pot-luck. A long standing member of Casa View Christian Church, his Sunday morning coffee will be missed. He was also an active Master Mason of the Gabe P. Allen #1352 Lodge.
He was a devoted son who took care of his mother, Elsie Mae Jones, for many years, until she passed away at age 100. He was also preceded in death by his father, Clarence Jones, and survived by his sister, Bettye Gipson.
G.P.’s ready smile, unique wit and endless supply of jokes will be missed my all those who had the privilege to know him.
A Memorial Service will be held at Casa View Christian Church, 2230 Barnes Bridge Rd, Dallas, TX 75228, on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 11:00 A.M.
