

She was born on December 4, 1925 to a preacher and his wife, Rev. Bud Elton and Pearlie Arnold Petty in Upsher County, Texas.
As a child, she was very active and enjoyed a myriad of interests. While attending Judson High School, she was a member of the Drama Club, Choir, and played saxophone for the high school band.
During her high school years, she worked for Humble Oil. After graduation, she enrolled and attended the Kilgore Community College where she was part of the famous Kilgore Rangerettes. Mrs. Murphy was a lieutenant for the squad.
Upon leaving college, she married Aubrey Patrick Murphy, DDS., on September 24, 1949 and after moving to Garland, Texas, they attended the First Baptist Church of Garland. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Murphy was a devoted wife and mother who loved spending time with family and friends. She was very active in the Republican Womens Group where she served a term as President of the local chapter. She was also a past president of the Garland Garden Club. She loved to entertain, loved going to musicals, reading her Bible, and listening to gospel music. One of her greatest attributes was her ability to cook. In fact, she won an award for one of her dishes. Mrs. Murphy was also a volunteer at the Garland Memorial Hospital.
A graveside service will be held for her on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in the Memory Park Cemetery, Longview, Texas with Dr. Doug Murphy, officiating. Pallbearers include: Patrick Murphy, Greg Murphy, Don Phillips, Doug Murphy, Aaron Stone, and Greg Fleming.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by brothers, Alton and Royce Petty, and daughter Jan Denise Murphy. Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved sister, Peggy Petty, daughter Lisa Murphy Phillips and husband Don, son Aubrey Patrick Murphy and wife Brenda. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Amanda Phillips Stone and her husband Aaron Stone, Aubrey Patrick Murphy, III, and Gregory Louis Murphy; great-grandchild Henry Forrester Stone, numerous friends, nieces, nephews, brother-in-law, and sister-in-laws.
