Gonzalo A Becerra

Gonzalo was born in Santiago Maravatio, Guanajuato, Mexico to Dionisia Alvarado Ruiz and Jesus Becerra Flores on April 19, 1955. He attended boarding school from the age of six at Conservatorio Nacional de Música José Guadalupe Velázquez in Queretaro, and later, Colegio San Nicolás de Hidalgo in Morelia, where he sang in the national boys choir and excelled academically. He attended the University of Guanajuato, where he studied Law and Human Rights, and participated in the historic Mexican Student Movements of the late 60s and early 70s.

In the mid-70s, he immigrated to the U.S. after meeting the love of his life in Dallas, Guadalupe Miramontes. They married in 1977, after which he pursued a career in fine dining & hospitality, and worked as Director of Private Dining for Rosewood’s The Mansion on Turtle Creek for over 30 years. There he led an award-winning team of hospitality professionals, and helped put The Mansion on the map as Dallas’s legendary, premiere hotel and restaurant. During his long career at The Mansion, he listed Celebrities, Heads of State, and the Country’s Top Business People as his clients. After retiring, he enjoyed long walks around White Rock Lake and the Dallas Arboretum, volunteering for the Catholic Church, and traveling to see his children and grandchildren in New York, London and Abu Dhabi. He had plans to travel to Europe when the pandemic passed, and to start spending half his time in Abu Dhabi with his grand-daughters.

Gonzalo is preceded in death by both parents, his sisters Maria Guadalupe and Puresa, and brothers Nicolas and Antonio.

Gonzalo is survived by his wife Guadalupe Miramontes Becerra; children: Cristina Pierson of London & Abu Dhabi, Aurora Zambrano of Dallas, and Nicholas Becerra of New York City; sons-in-law: Adam Pierson and Jesus Zambrano; grandchildren: Isabella, Emilia and Philippa Pierson; sisters: Elisa Becerra, Maria de la Luz Becerra and Cristina Hurtado; mother-in-law: Juanita Miramontes; and countless nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues whom he loved very much.

Memorials may be given to St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church. The family of Gonzalo wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Apurva Lapsiwala and Father Gaston of St. Bernard for their years of care and support, and appreciates all those making the extra effort to follow Covid safety protocols and keep the sick and vulnerable safe during these challenging times.

Rosary and Visitation will be 10am, Monday, February 8. The Funerary Mass and Entombment will be held at 9am, Tuesday, February 9. All services will be held at Calvary Hill Funeral Home & Mausoleum with the Father Gaston Giacinti of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, officiating.

**Due to Covid precautions, only a limited number of close family members have been invited to attend services in person, however, the family has arranged for a live broadcast of all services. The family also plans to host an in-person memorial service in the future, for all friends and family members to attend, when it’s safe for all to congregate again.**

La Familia Becerra cumple con el penoso deber de informar el lamentable fallecimiento del Sr. Gonzalo Becerra Alvarado. Gonzalo falleció inesperadamente el 12 de enero de 2021 en Dallas, Texas debido a complicaciones por el Covid-19.

Gonzalo nació en Santiago Maravatío, Guanajuato, México el 19 de abril de 1955. Sus padres fueron Dionisia Alvarado Ruiz (QEPD) y Jesus Becerra Flores (QEPD) de Guanajuato, México. Gonzalo estudió desde que tenía seis años en el Conservatorio Nacional de Música José Guadalupe Velázquez en Querétaro y más tarde continuó sus estudios en el Colegio San Nicolás Hidalgo en Morelia, donde era corista y tuvo un excelente desempeño académico. Gonzalo continuó su educación en la Universidad de Guanajuato, donde estudió Leyes y Derechos Humanos. Gonzalo participó en el histórico movimiento estudiantil Méxicano a finales de los años 60 y principio de los años 70.

A mediados de los años 70 Gonzalo emigró a los Estados Unidos después de conocer al amor de su vida, Guadalupe Miramontes, y se casaron en 1977. Gonzalo comenzó su carrera en hotelería y alta cocina en Dallas, Texas donde tuvo el placer de desarrollar una larga y exitosa vida profesional como director de eventos privados para Rosewood's The Mansion on Turtle Creek por más de treinta años. Lideró un galardonado equipo de profesionales y ayudó a establecer The Mansion on Turtle Creek entre uno de los más legendarios y prestigiosos restaurantes y hoteles en Dallas. Durante su carrera tuvo entre sus clientes a celebridades, jefes de estado e importantes empresarios. Después de retirarse, Gonzalo disfrutó mucho de largas caminatas alrededor del White Rock Lake y el Jardín Botánico de Dallas y voluntario de la Iglesia Católica. También tuvo la oportunidad de viajar a visitar a sus hijos y nietas en Nueva York, Londres y Abu Dhabi. Gonzalo tenía planes de viajar a Europa cuando terminara la pandemia y comenzar a pasar la mitad de su tiempo en Abu Dhabi con sus nietas.

Gonzalo fue precedido en la muerte por sus padres, sus hermanas Maria Guadalupe y Puresa y sus hermanos Nicolas y Antonio Becerra.

Le sobreviven su esposa Guadalupe Becerra Miramontes, sus hijos: Cristina Pierson de Londres y Abu Dhabi, Aurora Zambrano de Dallas y Nicholas Becerra de Nueva York; sus yernos: Adam Pierson y Jesus Zambrano; sus hermanas: Elisa Becerra, Maria de la Luz Becerra y Cristina Hurtado; sus nietas: Isabella, Emilia y Philippa Pierson; y su suegra: Juanita Miramontes. También le sobreviven incontables sobrinos, sobrinas, amigos y allegados a quienes quería mucho.

Donaciones en honor a su memoria pueden ser otorgadas a la parroquia de St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church. La familia de Gonzalo desea extender su más sincero agradecimiento al Dr. Apurva Lapsiwala y a el Padre Gaston de St. Bernard of Clairvaux por sus años de cuidados y apoyo. La familia también agradece y aprecia muchísimo a todos aquellos que están siguiendo los protocolos de protección contra el Covid que ayudan a mantener a las personas mas enfermas y vulnerables entre nosotros seguras durante estos tiempos tan difíciles.

El Rosario y el velorio serán llevados a las 10 de la mañana el lunes, 8 de febrero. La misa funeraria y el sepelio serán llevados el martes 9 de febrero a las 9 de la mañana. Todos los servicios serán realizados en Calvary Hill Funeral Home and Mausoleum. El sacerdote oficiante será el Padre Gaston Giacinti de la parroquia de St. Bernard of Clairvaux.
