Theo “Imogene” Jones (Savage) was called to be with the Lord on Friday, January 15, 2016. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her family and friends. Imogene was born on November 25, 1925 in Dallas, Texas to Hubert Burtis and Bessie Lou Savage.
She is survived by Ernest Jones, her husband of 68 years, and their children Mark Jones, Sandra Kost, and Katrina Pugh and her husband Rick; as well as one brother, Jack Savage and wife Patsy. She is also survived by five grandchildren Reagan, Alyssa, Jeff, Derek and Allison, as well as five great grandchildren Max, Macie, Mia, Kylan, and Bradyn; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and especially her devoted and loving caregiver Bernice Ward.
Imogene lived her entire life in Dallas making many wonderful memories over the years with her family and friends. She attended North Dallas High School and also attended Southern Methodist University on an art scholarship. After marrying Ernest on January 17, 1947, she became a homemaker and mother to her three loving children. In addition, she volunteered in numerous school and church activities.
Imogene was a life-long Southern Baptist who loved the Lord and enjoyed sharing her faith with others. She was baptized at North Dallas Baptist Church at an early age. After marrying, she and Ernest joined Pleasant Grove First Baptist Church where they attended for more than 60 years. She was most recently a member of First Baptist Church Urbandale, where she has been a member for the past 10 years.
Everyone loved Imogene’s kind and loving nature and she was always quick to comfort those in need, welcome new visitors with a smile, a wink, a hug and served the Lord in any capacity that was needed together with Ernest. Imogene never met a stranger. Their family enjoyed many camping vacations over the years all across the country with other families and friends. She also enjoyed wonderful trips to England and across Europe. Their home was a frequent gathering spot for family and friends over the years and was a place where all were welcome.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Sarah Taylor and New Century Hospice for their constant support.
Visitation and Celebration of Imogene's life will be on Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 3-6 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Monday, January 18 at 10 AM, also at Grove Hill Funeral Home, with Rev. Causey Gram officiating. Interment will be at 2 PM on Monday at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas.
