

Jack’s parents moved to Dallas in 1934 where his school years were spent. He attended North Dallas High School where he was a member of the marching and ROTC military band playing the trombone. He enrolled at SMU in 1949, graduating with a BBA. He served as president of his fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi. Jack was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the US Air Force and served in Korea and Japan from 1954-1956. In April of 1956 at Christ the King (Dallas), he married Marilyn Mock who he met while at SMU. He had a 36-year career in sales and marketing with the Ford Motor Company. Ford took the family to Phoenix, Detroit, St. Louis, and San Jose before returning to Richardson, Texas in 1979.
Jack loved golf and was a member of Canyon Creek Golf Club for many years. He made many friends there and even had two holes in one on the course. He was a loyal SMU Mustang fan cheering them on throughout the good and bad years as well as a Dallas Cowboy fan. Jack volunteered for ten years at NETWORK of Community Ministries during his retirement years.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Carol Duncan; his son John Duncan (Melanie); and daughter Nancy Woodall (David). Grandchildren: Meredith Duncan Bzura (Johnny); Heather Duncan Smeltser (Jonathan); Claire Woodall Barker (Oliver), John Woodall (Kelsey); Great- grandchildren, Rosemary and Jude Smeltser, nieces Susan Swanson, Laura Swanson Spangler (Bodie), and nephew David Swanson (Leigh). He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Fern Duncan; his wife of 68 years, Marilyn Mock Duncan; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family is thankful for the caregivers at both The Preston of Park Cities and Overture especially, Precious and Tiffany for caring for Jack as they would their own family.
A private family service will be held on May 5, 2025. The family welcomes donations to the SMU Mustang Club in lieu of flowers.
