The third of six children, Jack was born in Texarkana, Arkansas, to Allen and Alice Hargis on September 13, 1944. Jack grew up in Oak Cliff and graduated from Sunset High School in 1963.
Jack was a proud Aggie, having attended Texas A&M and East Texas State University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. He joined the United States Navy while still in high school and served in Viet Nam as a Lieutenant. Jack had a rewarding career as a sales manager for Glitsch, Inc., before retiring in 1997. In retirement, Jack spent several years traveling in his RV before settling down on his farm where he enjoyed fishing, raising cattle, sharing some elements of a “country life” with his grandchildren, and keeping up with his sweet dog Piper.
Jack is survived by his four children David Hargis (Barbara), Amy Ellefsen (Ryan), Charles Hargis, and Jennifer McGinnis (Billy); nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is also survived by four sisters, Juanita Wagener (Walt), Joan Bexley (Bill), Elisabeth Desmarais, and Mary Bottomly (Jimmy); sister-in-law Katty Hargis, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Roy.
