Jacque was driven and creative. Early in life, she began designing baby doll clothes. Because of a love of fashion and design, she obtained a degree in Fashion Merchandising from the University of Texas at Austin. At UT, Jacque met Bernard “Barney” Budow to whom she was married for 41 years until his death.
Jacque, continued to design throughout her adult life, first in the factory she owned with Barney. Her designs won awards and their poodle skirts hung in the windows of the downtown Neiman Marcus. Jacque later designed for a trend-setting maternity company, Mary Jane, and had a showroom in the Apparel Mart for many years. She even designed the home she shared with her second husband, Dr. Morton Prager.
She had many passions. Most notably people. She loved entertaining and was known for giving wonderful dinner parties with Mort, her husband of 26 years. Among the passions in her early adult life was flying planes, painting and writing poems for occasions and friends. She was an avid volunteer and held many offices, starting in college and continuing throughout her life, including Temple Shalom Sisterhood, local PTA’s in Richardson, and as a member of the National Board for the Women of Reform Judaism, to name only a few.
Jacque had a knack for organizing. She was instrumental in establishing what is now known as the University of North Texas’s Texas Fashion Collection.
She was honored many times. At the University of Texas, she was selected twice as one of the 10 Most Beautiful coeds. Jacque was selected Senior Woman’s Volunteer of the Year in the Jewish Community.
She is survived by Dr. Morton Prager, her sons Harry (Terri) and Larry, as well as Morton’s children, Karen (the late Greg Eaves), David (Teresa), Neal (Lori) and Brian along with four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of choice.
