James Adolph Doss

Jim was born on July 21, 1939, in Warren, Arkansas, to Tommy Doss and Lucille Crutchfield. He was raised in Warren and graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1961. He proudly served in the National Guard for seven years.

In 1966, Jim married the love of his life, Kay Legg, and together they built a family and raised three children. He devoted more than 39 years of his career to healthcare, serving as Deputy Regional Health Director at Regional Health Services in Dallas, Texas. Jim was widely respected for his leadership, innovation, and commitment to improving public health.

Among his many professional accomplishments, Jim was selected to serve on a special team responsible for automating the Dallas office, helping to lead the transition to computer technology. He also played an important role as a Regional Cancer Control Representative, contributing to efforts that demonstrated the effectiveness of cervical cancer screening and mammography.

Outside of his career, Jim found joy in the things he loved most—family, sports, and the outdoors. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Arkansas Razorbacks and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on. He had a passion for photography and lovingly documented family memories, creating albums that will be treasured for generations. He also enjoyed spending time fishing with his daughter, Janna.

Jim will be remembered above all as a caring and devoted husband and father.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy Doss and Lucille Crutchfield; his brother, Damon Doss; and his son, Tommy Doss.

Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kay Doss; his children, Kevin Doss and his wife, Tricia, and Janna Doss Aguirre and her husband, Oswaldo Aguirre; and his grandchildren.

Jim’s legacy of love, dedication, and service will live on through his family and all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church, Dallas, Texas.
