1947 ~ 2017
The final chapter of The Life and Times of James Michael Dumas has been written and he would like you to know that his work here is done. He received a call on June 3, 2017, the type of offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge signing bonus, a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time, and job security. Michael, an astute businessman, knew a good deal when he saw one and his new venture takes him to a wonderful place where he will be playing continuous rounds of golf, drinking a never-ending supply of scotch and wine, and socializing with friends to his heart’s content. Mike wanted it known that he died as a result of being stubborn, never giving up, refusing to accept standard doctors' orders and raising hell for more than six decades. He lived life to the fullest and left detailed instructions for his family and friends to celebrate his life here, which has now been completed.
Mike was born September 15, 1947, in Dallas to the late Hayden and Katherine Dumas. Michael graduated from Kimball High School and Texas Tech. He worked in the mortgage industry until he retired after a very successful career. He loved fast cars, travel, reading anything about Winston Churchill, playing golf, chocolate, sweets and ice-cream. Not necessarily in that order. He tolerated vegetables, but could not abide hypocrites or fools. One of the qualities that Michael possessed and made him so special to friends and family was his giving and warm heart. He talked a big game, but on the inside was a big softy and was always ready to right a wrong, reach out to someone in need, or give to an organization that needed a little help.
Michael is survived by a sister in law, Judy of Hideaway, a nephew, Bradley and his wife Leah Markov-Lindsey, of Austin; and a niece, Robin of Tyler. Michael will be inurned privately at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas and Donations to Meals on Wheels, Collin County, 600 N. Tennessee St., McKinney, TX 75069, would be joyfully welcomed. A Celebration of the life of James Michael Dumas will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at his home in Dallas, Texas, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. For further information please feel free to contact Amber Harrell at [email protected] or 214-202-0329 and RSVP at the same contact information by Thursday, June 15th. Michael asks that you stop by and re-tell the stories he can no longer tell. If it works into your plans to attend the Celebration, we ask that you consider taking Uber or some other form of drop off transportation as the cul-de-sac has the potential to become quite congested.
