

James L. Turpin, born September 28, 1927, in Burkburnett, Texas to Thomas Evans Turpin and Estelle Thomas Turpin, passed away on May 1, 2010, in Dallas, Texas. He was a Merchant Marine from 1945-1946 and served in the Pacific Theater. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1950. Jim was a 1st Lieutenant in the 36th Division of the Texas National Guard. He was a well known salesman in the men’s clothing industry in the Southwest and New York. James was a dedicated member of the Church of the Incarnation in Dallas where he was an usher and lector. He was known to be an avid deer hunter, sailor and motor home traveler. Preceded in death by his two brothers, John R. Turpin in 1974 and Thomas E. Turpin in 1919. Survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Patricia Gray Turpin; three sons and daughters-in-law, Alan S. and Patty Turpin of Cedar Park, TX, Thomas E. and wife Nita of Bedford, TX, and James M. and Heidi Turpin of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Meghan Henry and husband Ryan, Bonnie Andrews and husband Blake, Zachary Turpin, Rachel Smith and husband Patrick, and Aaron Gwaltney; two great-grandchildren, Josiah Andrews and Conner Henry; and his sister, Shirley T. Gresham of Bedford, TX. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Ave., Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Incarnation or to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
