

WINN, Jan Wilson Winn died peacefully at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas, on October 27, 2022. Jan was born on March 3, 1933, in Alexandria, Louisiana, to her parents J Howard Wilson and Faye Smith Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert D. Winn. She is survived by her children Susan Winn Wilkerson and her husband Walter and her son Robert Todd Winn and his wife Julie and her grandchildren Whitney Wilkerson Shaw and husband Bennett, Caroline Wilkerson, William Winn, Adam Winn and her great-grandson Jack Shaw, all of whom she loved dearly. Her beloved sister Nancy Wilson Cotton of Alexandria, Louisiana, also survives her. Jan had a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. all of whom she loved very much.
Jan grew up in Alexandria, Louisiana, and attended Bolton High School, where she graduated as her class Valedictorian and won many honors. After high school Jan attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri ,and Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority and graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
Jan met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Winn, while attending SMU and, following graduation, they were married and lived in Ferris, Texas, for several years. In 1971 Jan and Bob moved to Dallas where they worked together for many years building a successful wholesale meat business and enjoyed the large number of friends they made in the industry. Upon retirement, Jan and Bob bought a farm in East Texas and built a beautiful home where they entertained many family members and friends. Jan was the consummate hostess, with a genteel nature and true charm that was welcoming to all.
Following Bob’s death, Jan moved back to Dallas to be closer to her family and was able to live independently until the time of her death. Jan spent the last several years enjoying her family and friends and giving back to her community. Jan was a faithful Christian and devoted to helping others. Jan knitted countless blankets, which she donated to Vitas Hospice and quietly donated to other worthy causes.
The family will have a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2nd, at Sparkman- Hillcrest Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX, 75225. Following the service, the family will receive friends and family at the home of Whitney and Bennett Shaw.
