Mrs. Janet Marie Graham was the second of five children born to Pervis and June Taylor June 27, 1952 in Dallas, TX. Janet attended and graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School where she was an accomplished clarinet and flute member of the varsity band.

After Janet’s high school years she enrolled at Texas Woman’s University to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. Upon completing required course work and receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in nursing, Janet embarked on what would become a four decade career where she provided exemplary health care services to men and women of the United States Military. As a member of the Department of Veterans Affairs Nursing staff, Janet reported to duty in hospitals around the country including locations in Oklahoma, Denver, Colorado, New Jersey and ending her career in Dallas, Texas. Throughout Janet’s distinguished 40 year career she received numerous citations, commendations and awards.

In the winter of 1975 Janet would have a life changing experience when she was introduced to Calvin Graham through mutual friends. After much persistence from the new admirer, Janet finally conceded agreeing to accept an invitation to dinner. I cannot recall details regarding our dinner date, other than departing knowing Janet was the “Perfect Lady for Me”. Two years later, February 25, 1978, we were married. Janet is the mother of one son, Christopher Lauren Graham and the grandmother of Reign – little mama – who is the love of her life. Whenever Janet was away from the hospital she and Reign were inseparable. Without exception, Janet’s conversations were always filled with loving thoughts about “little mama”.

Janet accepted Christ at an early age. Her principles for living were based on her faith. If you needed help she was always supportive. When you had a heavy-heart she could ease the pain with humor and help you to refocus on something pleasant. Reflecting back 46 plus years I have known Janet I am not aware of anyone who has ever had an ill word to say about her. Janet truly was an angel.

Although we have gathered here to say goodbye we know her memories and love shall always live on in the hearts of family, friends and hundreds of patients she has touched along her journey. Janet, we will not forget you, and we will always miss and love you so much!

Janet leaves to cherish her memoires husband Calvin, son Christopher, granddaughter Reign, sisters – Carolyn McElroy (Robert), Venetia Kelly – nieces, nephews, and friends. Her parents – Pervis and June and brothers - Pervis Jr. and Kendall Taylor preceded Janet in death.

Mom, I still can't believe that you're not with me. Life will never be the same without you. I think about you everyday and I wonder why you haven't spoken to me yet in my dreams, perhaps I should be a little more patient. I will miss you terribly. I love you so much.

Love always,
Your son

To the family of Janet Graham.
I worked with Janet in MICU/CCU , where we developed a friendship for nearly 35 years. She was the best!!! Whenever we saw each other, we would take time to give updates on our lives. She loved her family and especially her granddaughter.
A hard worker, kind, generous , good listener, encourager, and comedian are a few attributes of this wonderful woman. She was truly loved. Family, be encouraged, may the Lord comfort and keep you.

Oh mama Janet. I miss you sunshine. MICU/CCU is already missing our famous Janet. When I joined the VA, I will never forget the warm welcome you gave me that made me fit in immediately. You were like a second mum to me. When I was low in spirit, you uplifted me. When I told you how tough it was to raise kids you always told me that one day they will grow up and make you a proud lady. You always spoke of Reign and your son Chris. You were their darling. I will pray for them.
When we were assigned the same unit, I knew my day would be fine coz of the team member you were. You were my fun mate talking buddie. Very outspoken. The famous Janet. Where are you sunshine? Oh Lord!
You were an experienced nurse who was always willing to teach the newbie RNs. We will certainly miss you. You left the unit one day not feeling well. I thought mamma you will come back but instead you are gone like the swirling wind that never gives a warning. I never got a chance to say good bye. RIP our dear mamma.

My sincerest condolences to family of Ms. Janet Graham: I only worked with Ms Janet a couple of times when she would float from her unit to work on my unit at the Dallas VA Medical Center. She was a ray of sunshine and sweet as pie. She had such a beautiful spirit and it felt like I'd known her for years. God has definitely gained a true lovely Angel. Rest in Peace sweet Ms Janet.🙏🏾💐

My heart is heavy as a wonderful special friend of mine has gone home to be with the Lord. But, I smile for all the treasured memories that I hold dear to my heart and thank God for meeting her and loving her for so many years. What a funny, loving person she will always be, and I know she is still joking & laughing at someone or something even now. I love you Janet, forever and always, Sylvia Pipkins, friend and co-worker.

My Jane Jane I’m going to miss listening to you tell me your stories even though I heard them hundred times 😂 about Reign, your vacations with your sisters, about Chris, what would we do if we won the lottery, when we would talk about you retiring you would always say maybe next yr I’ve been there 4 yrs now lol I would always tell you no Mama Janet you need to be here 5 more yrs you can’t leave me yet 😭 I’ll miss hearing you tell the new ppl that come to the unit “I’m the famous Janet Graham” or when your about to hang up the phone you would say “when I win the lottery I’ll remember you”😩 MICU/CCU hasn’t been the same since you left.. I hate that I didn’t get to say goodbye the last day you were there.. You are truly missed and loved. You are no longer hurting 😭😭😭😭💔💔Rest In Paradise Mama Janet

When I think of the VA, Janet is the first person that comes to mind. Janet knew everyone there and everyone knew her. She had such and infectious smile, glowing personality and wonderful soul. I'm truly going to miss her in the MICU/CCU. She was one of the nicest nurses I had the pleasure of working with. She always knew how to put a smile on your face both staff and patients. Prayers for the Graham family during this difficult time.
