Jeanne Kelly Grubbs (Jeannie) was born at Baylor Hospital, Dallas, Texas August 31, 1929. She attended North Dallas High and graduated with honors at the age of 16. She was the first female to be Managing editor of the school newspaper.
From the age of three, Jeannie studied various forms of dance including tap, modern, and ballet. She began dancing professionally at the State Fair Music Hall and at Dinner Shows at the Adolphus Hotel beginning at age 16. She continued dancing throughout her life, up until just a few weeks ago. Jeannie and her husband shared a lifelong love of dancing. They built a large dance room in their home where they hosted parties and taught the friends line and ballroom dancing. They also enjoyed snow skiing in Colorado, where they owned a home.
During her senior year at Southern Methodist University (SMU), Jeannie married her college sweetheart, George Grubbs. Together, they entered the automobile business, starting with used cars and later expanding to new car sales. Their goal was to own a new car dealership in the Dallas Fort Worth area, which they achieved after acquiring smaller dealerships in Roswell, New Mexico, and Waco Texas. At their Nissan dealership on Airport Freeway, Jeanne became one of the first women to serve as an Executive Manager in the DFW Metroplex. She and George Sr. inspired their family's love for the automobile business, and their sons, along with their grandson George Grubbs III, now own multiple automobile dealerships across Texas and Oklahoma.
Jeannie brought her husband to Edgemere Retirement Community in Dallas in February 2009, where she lovingly cared for him until his passing in 2012. They had been married for 62 years. Jeannie has continued to reside at Edgemere since then.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. She and George became members of Prestonwood Baptist Church in 1983, where Jeannie served on the finance committee for nine years.
Jeannie is survived by her two sons, George Grubbs, Jr. and Eric Grubbs, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
