

Jennifer Valdez Scott was born at Methodist Hospital, December 12, 1979, to the late Havert Scott and Helen Valdez Scott. She was the younger of two daughters. She attended Brasher Early Childhood, Mark Twain Vanguard Elementary, Atwell Academy and Skyline High School. In high school, Jennifer was a Lieutenant of the Silhouettes Drill Team, a member of the Honor Society, Science Club, Upward Bound, Debate Team, Varsity Track Team, Student Senate, Show Choir, Executive Assistant and a part of the 1997 Homecoming Court. She also received the Presidential Award from Who’s Who of America and a sponsored Debutante of Delta Sorority. Jennifer was a recipient of the President’s Award for Educational Achievement given by President Bill Clinton. She graduated with High Honors, top one percent of her high school class of 1998. Jennifer went on to continue her education at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where she received her BA in Biochemistry in 2002. She was later employed at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas, and John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2014, Jennifer was diagnosed with Dementia/Alzheimer’s Disease. Although her memory began to deteriorate, her love for GOD and happiness grew stronger by the day. Jennifer’s battle came to an end on September 10, 2017. In the words of her stepfather “She was a trooper.” The war was won when GOD called her home. “Earth hath no sorrow that heaven cannot heal”- Thomas Moore. Jennifer joins her father, Havert Scott; and paternal grandfather, Johnny B. Scott, in heaven; and her Life and Legacy will always be cherished by her mother, Helen Scott-Mann; stepfather, John Mann; sister, Aratis “Tessie” Scott-Hartsfield (Teddy); her paternal grandmother, Dr. Hullie Mae Cooper-Scott; two uncles, Raliegh C. Scott (Sandra) and Dr. Johnny A. Scott (Michelle); eight aunts, Catherine Pridgen, Christine Rozier, Dr. Cheryl Anderson, Leticia V. Oñate, Fe A. Searle, Julieta V. Olanday, Nina A. Valdez, and Asunción V. Haig; four nieces, Causha Ferguson, Camillya Ferguson, Tanay Hartsfield and Tyana Hartsfield; two great nephews, Daylon Blair and Cameron Gray; two great nieces, Hayden Singleton and Cai Gray; her caregiver, Deborah Bailey; lifetime loyal friend, Jerene Sowels; and a host of friends and family here in the United States and the Philippines.
