

Jo Ann Sloan, 85, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025 in McKinney, Texas. A woman of deep faith, boundless curiosity, and vibrant spirit, Jo Ann lived a full life, enriched by her love of travel, literature, good food, cherished pets, and timeless style.
Born on November 4, 1939 in Dallas, Texas, Jo Ann was the beloved daughter and only child of Elmer and Ima (Norman) Sloan, who preceded her in death.
As a young woman seeking a career, Jo Ann set out for Los Angeles for a few months, then on to New York City where she worked for ABC television. She lived in the famous Edna St. Vincent Malay carriage house on Bedford Street and soon became an avid weekend skier. Jo Ann would later take jobs in Austin, Texas where she worked for the chancellor of The University of Texas, then back to Dallas where she worked for Sparkman Funeral Home, at the time located in the famed downtown Belo Mansion. Jo Ann then went on to work for Braniff Airlines and Japan Airlines before landing at Delta. Her career at Delta Airlines spanned 25 years, during which she embraced every opportunity to explore the world, forming lasting memories and friendships along the way.
A cherished achievement of Jo Ann's was sailing on a private boat with a friend, from Houston to The Bahamas along the intercostal canal and Gulf of Mexico, over the course of several months in the mid 70s.
Jo Ann's life was guided by her strong spiritual foundation and compassion for others. She was a loyal friend and over the years her circle of close friends became family, offering her love, laughter, and support through every chapter of her life.
Jo Ann's legacy of grace, independence, and adventure will be remembered fondly and missed by all who were fortunate to know her.
Visitation will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home on Sunday, June 8th at 3PM to 4 o'clock. Graveside services will be at Grove Hill Cemetery on Monday, June 9th at 1 o'clock.
