Joan was born on August 28th, 1936 in Sherman, Texas to Joseph and Mary Evelyn Connelly. Soon after, Joan and her parents moved to Dallas where she graduated from Adamson High School. Joan attended North Texas State University and began her career at Blue Cross Blue Shield shortly after graduation. Following her job at Blue Cross Blue Shield, Joan moved to New York City where she was an executive assistant to the renowned architect I. M. Pei. While working in New York City, Joan met her husband and they moved back to Dallas, TX to raise their family. Joan was a lover of antiques and she traveled the world to source the finest antiques and bring them back to Dallas. Joan opened an antique store named Yesterday's Corner in Uptown Dallas, which grew successfully over the years. Many years later, Joan closed the store to spend more time with her growing family. Before long, Joan opened a fabulous antique booth at Forestwood Antique Mall to continue her love of antiquing. You could always find her in the Tea Room, sharing a grilled cheese and a piece of cake with her family and friends after proudly showing everyone her booth filled with her precious collections.
Joan's greatest accomplishment was her three children and their families. "Gigi", as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, made it a priority to attend as many sporting events, dance competitions, concerts, and school festivities as possible. In her spare time, Joan enjoyed traveling to tropical destinations and cruising the Caribbean with her family. Additionally, Joan loved to cook for family and friends. To this day, Joan's family frequently uses her recipes to cook some of her amazing dishes. Joan was a devoted member of Christ the King Catholic Church and loved attending Sunday Mass with her family. Her family and friends will remember her as a loving, caring, sweet lady who was selfless and always put her family's needs before her own.
Joan's family would like to thank her caregivers at the Tradition on Lovers Lane and those at Avalon Memory Care for taking such wonderful and loving care of our beloved Gigi. We will miss her so much! She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Evelyn Connelly, her brother, Thom Connelly, and her aunt and uncle, Ruth and Jack Connelly. Joan is survived by her children, Andrea and David Hart, Tedd and Tammy Amberg, and Christopher Amberg. Additionally, she is survived by her four grandchildren, Hunter, Carson, and Parker Hart, and Taylor Amberg.
