

Joan Macklin Cook was born on August 25, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois and died on November 8, 2017 at Highland Springs in Dallas, Texas. A longtime resident of Dallas, Joan graduated from Sam Houston State University and soon after joined American Airlines, Inc., from which she retired. For many years, Joan was a Manager of the Admirals Club at DFW Airport.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret Dysart and Paul Eugene Macklin of Arlington; her husband, James McDonald Cook of Dallas; her sister, Carole Macklin Briscoe of Memphis, TN; and her husband’s son, Lee Flowers Cook of Brenham. She is survived by her cousin, Margaret Franke of Truchas, NM; brother-in-law, Richard Briscoe of Naples, FL; her husband’s son, James H. Cook of San Antonio, daughter, Paula Cook Williams of Jacksboro and daughter-in-law, Robin Winkelmann Cook of Brenham; grandchildren, James Heath Cook and wife April of Jacksboro, Courtney Cook Holm and husband Nelson of Fort Worth, Caroline Cook Maxwell and husband Wyatt of Dallas, Cathleen Cook Redus and husband Ryan of Fort Worth, Mallory Williams Tolleson and husband Ross of Fort Benning, GA; and great-grandchildren Kemper Addison Cook, Hudson Cook Holm, Eleanor Grace Holm, Samuel Lee Maxwell, William Hayes Maxwell, Mary Caroline Maxwell, Emma Claire Redus, and William Sawyer Redus. She also leaves close friends, many with whom she worked at American. Joan loved her family, her home, her friends, her cat and dog and all holidays.
The family is grateful to the staff of Highland Springs and VNA Hospice for their competent and compassionate care. A Graveside Service will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Dallas, TX, 7405 W Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX 75225. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Joan's memory to MD Anderson Cancer Center for glioblastoma and dementia research; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
