Joe Torres, Jr., 92, passed away on September 29, 2014. He was born on October 2, 1921 in Ennis, TX to Jose and Maria Garcia Torres. Joe was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country in World War II during the landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day and he received a Purple Heart for his efforts. Upon his return, he married Paula Flores on August 18, 1946. He proudly retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He is preceded in death by his wife, Paula; parents, Jose Torres and Maria Garcia Torres; 4 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by his daughters, Gloria Abrahams and Debbie T. Rodriguez and husband Ted; sons, Joe Torres III and Michael Torres and wife Anita; brother, Joe A. Torres; sisters, Beatrice Garcia and Carmen Saldana; 3 grandchildren, J.P. Ingram and wife Bridgette, Nicholas Trevino, and Paul Torres; and 2 great-grandchildren, Jaxton and Jolee Ingram. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 from 1-8PM at Gonzalez Funeral Home with a reciting of the Rosary at 6PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin Guadalupe on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 2PM. Interment will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
