August 18, 1934 – July 9, 2025
Dr. John J. Cadigan, D.D.S., affectionately known as “Doc” or “Jack,” passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, at the age of 90 in Dallas, Texas.
Jack was born in New York, NY, on August 18, 1934, to John and Margaretha Cadigan. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a Chinese linguist aboard the USS Lexington, completing code training in the Philippines and Hawaii.
A graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Jack earned both a bachelor’s degree in science and a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He later moved to Dallas, where he married Mary Louise O’Malley at Christ the King Catholic Church. Together they celebrated 62 joyful years of marriage.
Jack practiced dentistry for 40 years and had a lifelong love of learning. He enjoyed reading, Irish pub songs, New York theater, jewelry making, and French history. And he remained a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan to the end.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Bill Frainey, as well as brothers-in-law Donald J. O’Malley and Richard P. O’Malley. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Louise; daughters Meg Frainey and Cathleen Cadigan; sons Stephen (and his wife Patti) and John; and his cherished grandchildren, Griffin, Kevin, and Parker. He also leaves behind brothers- and sisters-in-law Dennis and Barbara O’Malley, Patty and Mark Brunger, and Rosemary Finley, along with dozens of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-greats.
A Rosary (11:00 a.m.) and Funeral Mass (at 11:30 a.m.) will be held at St. Rita Catholic Community on Aug. 1. Interment will take place at a later date at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
The Cadigan family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the incredible teams at Jackson’s Place, Heart to Heart Hospice, and the 6th floor nursing staff at Baylor Scott & White – Plano.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Rita School Building Fund “A Promise for Generations” or the Alzheimer’s Association in Jack’s memory.
