He was born in Dallas on June 6, 1942 to John Glen and Mildred Faulkner. He married his wife, Sharon, on July 18, 1963; they were married for 61 years and had two boys, Jeff and Tom.
One of nine children, John dropped out of junior high and started working early as a shoe shine boy to help support his family. He worked his way up from mopping on Sundays at his brother-in-law's dry cleaners to managing and eventually buying it from him. Sharon would run the front and he would run the back, they decided. He became president of the Texas Laundry and Dry Cleaning Association from 1992-1993. He was sharp and business savvy.
When he wasn't working, he loved drag racing (in 1968 he held a world record), traveling with family and friends, spending time at his pine tree farm in East Texas, talking politics, and telling stories.
John is preceded in death by his father John, mother Mildred (Big Moma), brothers Gus, Glen, David Lee, and his son Jeff.
He is survived by his son Tom and his wife Karon, granddaughter Kristen, brothers Franklin (Tinker) and Marvin (Pooch), sisters Barbara Jean, Linda, Cynthia, many nieces and nephews, and other family and friends
