John R. Hurley

John Robert Hurley of Seven Points, Texas was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on October 1, 2021. His family rejoices knowing that he is reunited with his youngest son, David Cole Hurley.

Jack, as was his nickname, was born on July 19th, 1930 in New Haven, Connecticut to Edward and Sabina Hurley and is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Edward and Donald Hurley.

After his primary schooling, Jack joined the Navy where he thrived as his ship’s lithographer (printer), a trade that would become a lifelong career until his retirement from LTV Aerospace in 1994. Jack’s military tenure included 5 years in the Navy during the Korean War.

Jack married his lifelong dancing partner and the apple of his eye, Claire McManus, on February 12, 1955. Together, they raised 3 sons and 4 daughters. Theirs was a home of unwavering faith and one where all were welcome and where some of the best St. Patrick’s Day parties were held!

After raising their children, Jack and Claire moved to their summer home at Cedar Creek Lake where they continued to serve their church and community. As a lifelong, unwavering Catholic, Jack served the Church in many capacities finding his final church home at St. Jude Parish in Gun Barrel City, Texas where he continued his ministry as a Fourth Degree Knight with the local Knights of Columbus.

Jack leaves his wife and six of his children behind including John Hurley of Bedford, Texas; Donna Hurley of Dallas, Texas; Tracey Hill of Keller, Texas; Steve Hurley and wife, Tess of Frisco, Texas; Christine Pollock and husband, Kevin of Mabank, Texas and Colleen Howell of Forney, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Ann Fitzpatrick of West Haven, Connecticut.

Jack’s family will dearly miss the tight hugs and earnest “God Bless You!” from him whenever he parted ways with them. They will fondly remember his robust rendition of That’s Amore and know, without doubt, that the pearly gates will be that much stronger and straighter after Jack has worked on them.
