John Nelka Jr. passed away on May 3, 2023, at the age of 71. The oldest child of Adele Nelka and the late John Nelka Sr., John was born in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Dallas as a child. John graduated from Bishop Lynch High School, earned an undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University, and spent much of his professional career in the field of medical coding. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of sports of all types, avidly followed current events, and remained a lifelong Baltimore Orioles and Colts fan – even after the club’s move. In addition to his mother, John is survived by his sisters Nancy Hampton (Wes) and Lucie Pound (Barry), four nieces and nephews, and two grandnieces.
A memorial service for John will be held on Friday, June 2 at 1 p.m. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church in Dallas.
