

John R Swanson II, DDS died peacefully in his sleep on August 9, 2016. His beloved wife of more than 70 years, Eloise Brown Swanson, was at his side. He served as a United States Marine Corps “Devil Dog” at Midway Island during World War II. A dedicated SMU Mustang fan, 50+ year member of the Dallas Dental Society, former Commander of the Dallas Power Squadron, an avid backpacker and adventurer, arts patron, author and playwright, he enjoyed his 90 years of life to the fullest.
Predeceased by his parents, John R Swanson Sr. and Lucy Hommerin Swanson, one brother, Joe Swanson Sr. He is survived by four children: John R. (Cathy) Swanson III, Louise (Walter) Schuerenberg, Veronica (Thomas) Powell, Eric (Marilyn) Swanson: eight grandchildren; John (Beckie) Schuerenberg, Heather (Jeffrey) Powell Joy, Lucy Powell, Nettie Powell, Karina (Bruce) Swanson Van Horn, Amy (Peter) Swanson Sillan, Eric Swanson II, Jared (Skye) Hibbard-Swanson: eleven great-grandchildren: Jack, Allison, and Luke Schuerenberg; Kai, Leo, and Max Joy; Katherine and Phoebe Van Horn; John and Eloise Sillan; Leif Hibbard-Swanson; Nephew; Joe Swanson Jr.: Sister-in-law; Miriam Swanson.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Marion-Polk Food Share Youth Farm or to the charity of your choice.
