

One of seven children, Josephine was born on March 7, 1919, in Aquilla, Texas to Emil and Josephine Kolar. She married Alfred C. Meinzer Sr. on May 21, 1940. They settled in Dallas and were one of the founding members of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Josephine devoted much of her free time to volunteering at Church and at Ladies of Charity. She was active in the Ladies Guild, Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Her hobbies included baking, gardening and growing plants. But most of all, she enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, teaching them and sharing stories about her life on the farm when she was young.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred C. Meinzer, Sr. She is survived by her two sons Alfred C. Meinzer, Jr. and wife Rebecca, Vincent E. Meinzer and wife Barbara, both of Dallas; her grandchildren Lisa (Meinzer) Tafoya, Kim (Meinzer) Shoultz, Vincent E. Meinzer, Jr., Tracey Meinzer Filbeck, Jennifer (Meinzer) Kemp, and Nicholas Meinzer; her 16 great-grandchildren, Alexandra Tafoya, Steven Todd Shoultz, Sarah Shoultz, Emily Meinzer, Matthew Meinzer, Justin Filbeck, Jakob Filbeck, Sonny Kemp, Allison Kemp, Wesley Kemp, Clayton Kemp, Zachary Kemp, Samantha Meinzer, Reagan Meinzer, Nicholas Meinzer, Jr. and Ian Meinzer her sister, Adele Kolar Matus.
Visitation will be at Grove Hill Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011. A Rosary followed by Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Dallas at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011. Officiating at her services will be Rev. Michael Snider, Pastor of St. Mary of the Cenacle, New Boston, Texas, assisted by Deacon Ruben Natera, Chancellor, Diocese of Tyler, Texas. Her pallbearers will be Vincent Meinzer, Jr., Jared W. Filbeck, James Kemp, Nick Meinzer, Steven Todd Shoultz and Sonny Kemp. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.
