

Joyce Marie Edwards Harper was born on January 9, 1937, in New Orleans, LA, to Joseph Edwards, Jr. and Iola Richards Edwards, both of whom preceded her in death. She had 3 siblings: Gloria Edwards Balthazar, Earl James Edwards, and Joseph Edwards, III, who also preceded her in death.
Joyce accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age, becoming a devoted member of Rosedale Missionary Baptist Church in New Orleans. She graduated from Joseph S. Clark Senior High School at the age of 17. On July 24, 1954, she married Rathial Harper Sr., her lifelong partner. They started their family in Dallas, Texas, and were blessed with four children: Rathial Harper Jr., Julius Stanley Harper (both preceded in death), Debra Elaine Harper Robertson, and Deadres Chere Harper Jones.
A pillar of her community, Joyce dedicated 31 years of service to the Postal Services where she was affectionately known as "Silver Fox". She was renowned for her cooking skills and generous spirit. She was always ready to lend a helping hand. Joyce was actively involved as an usher at Bexar Street Baptist Church and Greater South Central before becoming a member of Greater Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church later in life.
Joyce peacefully answered her heavenly call on June 17, 2024, entering into eternal rest free from pain and illness. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Debra Robertson and Deadres Jones (Benny), her sister-in-law Ernestine Foreman (Clarence), Godson Chauncey Grant, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a wide circle of friends and extended family.
Joyce Harper's life was marked by faith, dedication to family, and service to her community. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
