Joyce S. Hogan, 95, of Dallas, Texas, passed on July 6, 2020. She was born in Houston, Texas, February 15, 1925 to the late Charles and Lulu Sowerby. Joyce married Jerry J. Hogan on October 26, 1946 in Houston, Texas.

She graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1942. Joyce worked for oil companies doing secretarial work before she was married and throughout; until her husband’s job opportunities relocated them first to Alice, Texas and finally to Dallas, Texas in the early 50’s.

Soon after moving to Dallas they began a family in Oak Cliff but shortly after the birth of their second child, they settled in East Dallas in the St. Pius X Parish where they would reside the remainder of their lives. It is in the St. Pius X and Bishop Lynch community where Joyce’s aptitude for service would develop and become a lifelong vocation.

Her husband of 67 years died in 2013. Joyce is survived by her son; Patrick Hogan (Diane), daughter; Nancy Hill (Robby), sons; Jeff Hogan and Tom Hogan. Grandchildren; Katie, Kevin, Justin, Andy, Elliot, Miles (Kierra), Lauren and Adam. Great Grandchildren; Makayla, Christian, Daniel, Evan, and A.J.

Visitation is Friday, July 17, 2020 from 6-8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday, July 18th at 10:30 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3030 Gus Thomasson Road, Dallas with Rev. Michael Guadagnoli, V.F. celebrant. Joyce Hogan is up dancing in Heaven, organizing and probably helping somebody get dressed for a play! She is one of the finest women that Andy and I have ever known.
We loved Joyce and we love her family!

Miss Hogan was a legendary figure in most of our lives at St Pius. I don't know how she did what she did. I know she preferred sports, but here she was leading all the little St Pius pep squad and teaching us routines for the Bowl Game. T-I-G-E-R-S !!! She arranged tryouts, she got uniforms... the logistics are actually amazing. This one lady could do it all and do it well. She had a good wicked sense of humor, which she passed on to her children. Whenever I would see Joyce Hogan I would think, "here comes fun!" Miss Hogan was the creator of good memories... God Bless and peace to her family members.

What a legacy Joyce leaves - I am sorry for your loss but what wonderful memories many people have, especially thinking of that smile that would light up her face and put a sparkle in her eyes. Sending hugs and blessings To you Nancy and know I have wonderful memories of you, too. B. J.

A truly great lady with a huge heart for the BL community. Fond memories of her working the bookstore, making costumes for those of us in Blackfriars...seems like she was always there at the school back in the 80's - only a small slice of her actual involvement I'm sure. May she hear these blessed words of the Father: "Well done, good and faithful servant".

Mrs. Hogan was always willing to help. She had a strict demeanor at times, but always interjected a dry wit. I remember her smile and especially her laugh. Joyce was the epitome of BL.
