

Judy Gear Ligon ended her courageous battle with ALS and went to the Lord peacefully on March 21, 2021. Judy was born in Dallas, Texas, on October 30, 1940, the daughter of R.A. and Edith Harvey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Harry C. Gear and baby Thomas Gear. She is survived by husband Fred Ligon of Dallas, sons Wade Gear and wife Kathy of Aledo, and Louis Gear of Dallas; and brother John Harvey. Additionally, her stepchildren Bill and Jenny Ligon, Rick and Anne Ligon, and Katie and John Lambert. Also, her pride and joy, the 10 grandchildren; Gaby Gear, Katie Gear, Libby Gear, Blake and Lindsey Ligon, Carter and wife Cathryn Ligon, Olivia Ligon and Kathryn and Stephen Lambert.
Judy graduated from Highland Park High School in 1958. She attended the University of Texas her freshman year and then transferred to SMU where she graduated in 1961. While there, she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. After college, she taught school and then owned and operated a successful antique business, and finally, staged houses for sale.
In 1997, she became a very active member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. She served in the Prayer Tower, delivered flowers to shut-ins, delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered in the special needs Night Owls ministry, and more importantly, was one of the founding members of the Violence Intervention and Prevention ministry of the church. She was also a devoted member of the First Light Sunday school class, having served as its president. In addition to the church, she was also active with several nonprofits in Dallas dealing with domestic abuse.
Judy was a beautiful, kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who was loved and will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Restoration Ministry of HPUMC or the ALS Foundation. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 29, at 3:30 p.m.,in the sanctuary of HPUMC.
