June Harrell, at 80 years old to the day, died peacefully surrounded by her family at 5:15 pm on October 27, 2010. For those who knew June, she was a woman with a servant heart, a gentle spirit, and a ready smile for all.
She excelled in the world of work, being named as the Dental Assistant of the Year in Dallas in 1986, but her family and her church were the true focus of her life. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, her best friend, soul-mate, and ballroom dancing partner, Judge Maurice Harrell. She is also survived by her son Dale Park who lives nearby in Mesquite.
She was a woman who endured adversity. Two of her adult children, Charlie Hood and Lititia Patton, preceded her in death. Even with such grief, she always managed to find the blessings among the sorrows. She will be buried next to her daughter at Restland on Saturday, October 30th at 12:30 pm.
She became a “mother” again as she took in her two grandchildren, Grant Sampeck and Neil Browning, to nurture and rear as her own following her daughter’s death. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She had four other grandchildren, Jason Braley, Brian Higginbotham, Ben Higginbotham, and Evan Park, as well as a great grandson, Jensen Browning.
She and Maurice made frequent visits to see her step-sister, Barbara Holland of San Diego, who was as close as any sister could be.
Her work with the needy at the Highland Oaks Church of Christ Caring and Sharing ministry typifies her as nothing else can. People whom she served are still asking for her, though she’s been retired from work for several years. Her empathy and care were always given right along with the food and clothing. Her compassion knew no bounds.
She had a mischievous grin, a catching laugh that would shake her entire petite frame, and a twinkle in her eyes, which will all be missed by those who knew her.
Visitation will be at the Sparkman/Crane Funeral Home on Friday, October 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, with the funeral service to be held at the Highland Oaks Church of Christ at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 30th, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Highland Oaks Church of Christ Caring and Sharing (HOCC- Caring and Sharing), 10805 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, Texas 75238.
