

Kate Barksdale Thomas Stowe passed away on September 23, 2025. She was born July 11, 1953, in Dallas, Texas, to Julia Cain and Cullen Sheppard Thomas. She attended Hockaday and the Highland Park schools. Afterward, she attended the Art Institute of Atlanta and modeled for the Kim Dawson Agency of Dallas.
Kate was a talented artist, who created beautiful portraits of her family members, as well as many other gorgeous paintings. In fact, she had an artistic flair in everything she did. She also had the voice of an angel and studied voice for many years.
She had an eye for beauty of all kinds. She loved fine art and fashion, as well as treasures from estate sales and flea markets. She had several booths at antique malls and the Fort Worth Cattle Barn over the years. She was also an avid doll collector and was devoted to her many pets in her lifetime. She loved all animals.
Kate will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, as well as her grandparents, Kate and John E. Cain, Jr., of Nashville and Olga and Cullen Fleming Thomas of Dallas. She is survived by her brothers, John Sheppard Thomas and Cullen Fleming Thomas; her sister, Julie Thomas Hu; her daughter, Julia Stowe; her boyfriend, James Lopez; and her dear friend, Sandra Cook.
A graveside service for Kate will be held at 10am on Saturday, October 11, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Operation Kindness at 3201 Earhart Drive, Carrollton, TX 75006, to the Humane Society of North Texas, or to a charity of your choice.
