Kenneth Allan Ring was born May 13, 1939 in Owatonna, MN, to Allan and Lila Ring. He was baptized into the Christian faith that same year. He attended Mt Pleasant High School in Iowa, graduating in May 1957. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1957-1959. After his honorable discharge, Ken attended Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato, MN, graduating with an AA in May 1961.
On February 29, 1964, Ken was married to Marie Cecile Kunz at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chicago IL. They lived in Minneapolis and Chicago for the first six years of their marriage, moving to Dallas, TX in 1970 where they spent the rest of their marriage, raising their four children there: Alex, Chris, Jen & Greg.
Ken was an active member of the congregations he belonged to, serving on various boards and committees, as well as serving as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, Bible class teacher and elder. His business, Lutheran Visuals, brought him into contact with many church leaders and allowed him to serve the church at large and to be active in churchwork outside his local congregation.
Ken was active his whole life, playing basketball in his youth then playing tennis and running with his kids. He completed his first marathon at the age of 60 and regularly played golf. He was also an avid reader, reading almost exclusively non-fiction on subjects of history and Lutheran theology.
On Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 7 days, God in His mercy saw fit to call Ken home to heaven. Blessed be his memory!
Ken is survived by his wife, Marie and children Alexander (Caroline) and their daughter Emeline; Christopher (Michele) and their sons Dillon, Parker & Cannon; Jennifer (Shannon O’Brien) and their children Lila, Logan & Erin; Gregory (Ashley) and their children Turner, Gus & Della. He is also survived by siblings Jerry (Samantha), Bob (Connie), Sue (Jack Powell), and Gayle (Hansel Stack). He was preceded in death by his parents Allan and Lila, and by his twin sister Karen.
