

Kofi Amon-Ra Woodroffe was born on January 4, 1985 in Lenox Hill Hospital, New York City. He was born to his parents Darcy M. M. Woodroffe and Katheann Marcia Woodroffe (nee Ifill) on their 10th wedding Anniversary. Kofi, which is a Ghanaian name that means male child born on a Friday. He was welcomed into the family by his two older sisters Kim and Amanda. Kofi started school early, attending kindergarten at the tender age of 3 ½ years at the Al Karim Day School, in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. From an early age Kofi made friends with everyone. It seems as if he knew everyone and everyone knew him. As the years went by Kofi attended PS 213, George Gershwin Junior HS, and Thomas Jefferson HS all in Brooklyn.
In High School he joined the school track team Orange Lightning and won many medals and trophies. In High School he also participated in the School theatre group and starred in the school production of Grease. He performed the role of Teen Angel (as done by Frankie Avalon during the Beauty School Dropout song)
After High School he attended NYC Technical College where he continued to participate in the track and field winning awards for men cross country and indoor track events. Kofi decided to leave NY Technical and enter the workforce. He started out as a Teller at JP Morgan Chase Bank and by the time he left to relocate to Dallas he was promoted to head teller, responsible for the vault and overseeing the teller staff.
Kofi moved to Dallas in January 2010. Dallas called to him and after one visit, he quit his job and moved here with no family or friends. As much as he loved New York, Dallas is where he plans to spend the rest of his life. Until his death, Kofi worked as a Police Research Specialist with the Dallas Police Department. His dedication and commitment to doing his best was awarded. He received commendations for a job well done in December 2013 and October 2016. He received the Meritorious Conduct and Non-sworn Employee of the year in November 2020.
Kofi inherited many of his father’s skills of electrical, plumbing and carpentry. He was very creative in decorating and loved fashion and style. He had a strong sense of commitment and dedication to family, his friends, and his work.
He joined Delta Phi Upsilon Fraternity, Inc through the Southern Region on May 4 2013 . He was an active member of the North Texas Colony. Kofi’s dedication to service has given many people a safe place to feel included and has given resources to the community to assist in many areas of need. His participation in social and community upliftment events reached far and near and will never be forgotten.
Kofi leaves to cherish his memory, his mom Katheann,”Mumsy” sisters Kim Woodroffe-Boney and Amanda Findlay. His nephew Brandon Findlay, niece Audrey Findlay, Aunts- Beverley Bailey, Salona Balgobin, Shahida Ifill-Walcott, Maxine Brown (Barbados) Dr. Priscilla Charles(Dominica) Dr. Annette Woodroffe (USA) Cheryl Culpepper-Lestrade, Vincia Hurtault (UK) Uncles-Suleman Bakharia, Trevor Woodroffe Louis Woodroffe, Ronald Woodroffe (Barbados) Ahmad Ifill-Bakharia, Devare Woodroffe (USA) Wayne Woodroffe (UK) His nephew Brandon Findlay, and his niece Audrey Findlay. Great Uncle Michael Grimes. Brothers-in-law Robert Boney, Brian Findlay, dear friends, Juanita and Ivan Kelly, Phyllis Brathwaite, and James Usher. A host of cousins, co-workers, members of Delta Phi Upsilon Fraternity and many who have known him all his life.
