Laurel Sue Springer, 83, of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on October 20, 2016. Sue was born on May 1, 1933 in Holton, Kansas to Chelmar E. and Laurel F. Keller. Her formative years were spent in Horton, Kansas where her parents owned a small diner. At Horton High School, she was a baton twirler and participated in local beauty pageants. It was in Horton that she met the love of her life, Melvin L. Springer. They were married in 1951. By the end of the decade, they were the proud parents of four children. Mom was the glue that held the family together. She helped us survive many of Dad’s airline transfers from city to city while he was working at Continental Airlines. One of the family’s favorite stops along the way was Gladstone, MO. We were blessed to grow up in the best neighborhood where many lifelong friends were made. After a stay in Southern California, the last stop was Dallas, TX. Sue, for the most part, was a stay at home mom. She worked a couple of part time jobs while we were in school, but she was always there in the morning and home by dinner time. In Dallas, she worked in a doctor’s office until retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin L. Springer and her parents, Chelmar and Laurel Keller. She is survived by her beloved brother, Richard Keller; her sons Steven Springer, Alan Springer and his wife, Debi; daughters Sherry Thornley and her husband, Dennis, Melissa Boston and her husband, Dan. She is survived by her grandchildren, Melanie Springer, Tim Springer, Joshua Plata and his wife, Kristen, Jake Plata and his wife, Queren, Crystal Boston, Ann Boston, Jill Walker and her husband, Zack, and Tatianna Vanhoy-Shotwell and her husband, Michael Shotwell. She is survived by 9 great-grandchildren – Christopher, Elena, Braden, Bryce, Ryan, Jason, Noah, Jaxson and Adalynn.
Sue will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Melvin in the Garden of Roses. Services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10am at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association or the Marfan Foundation.
