LEE VONIA BONNER JR. was born on November 11, 1924, in Waxahachie, Texas to the parentage of Lee V. Bonner, Sr. and Venola Bonner. The oldest of two children, he and his brother, James were raised in a God-fearing Christian home. He received his formal education in the city of Waxahachie and graduated from Oak Lawn High School.
As a young man, Lee made Dallas his home. With his heart and soul filled with the love of God, he accepted Jesus Christ as His Savior. In 1971, he joined the Mount Moriah Church family. He faithfully attended Worship services, was a member of the Brotherhood and the H.B. Smith Sunday School class and devotedly served as a Senior Usher. He enjoyed Christian fellowship and always greeted each member with a warm, heartfelt smile.
Following many years of service in the Army, Lee worked as a Dispatcher with Terminal Cab Company. Post retirement, he remained in his community often attending activities with other senior citizens at the Salvation Army.
In August 2005, Lee married Linda Minafee. The couple enjoyed spending time with family and shared many laughs together. Affectionally known by many of his family members as “Cuz”, Lee walked in gratitude and humility. His favorite hymns, “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” and “Walk With Me Lord” reflected his total dependence in the God of His salvation.
Those who remain to cherish Lee’s legacy of devoted service and love include his wife, Linda Bonner; children, Ricky Jenkins and Vernisa Bonner; stepchildren, Rodney, Rory and Montray Minafee; sister-in-law, Patricia Minafee; cousins, Patsye Dekle, Mary Black, John Walter Green, Elaine Law; uncle, Horace Minafee; other nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
