Lila worked for one family for over 35 years doing private housekeeping and raising their children. She was the “queen of thrift.” She owned several thrift stores over a 40 year span. Lila enjoyed and worked at her thrift store until she wasn’t able to continue physically. She was a loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother and Auntie. She took honor in raising her grandchildren. Lila led by example; she was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. Lila “grandma” will surely be missed each and every day.
Lila Fields Frierson departed this life peacefully on Friday morning, December 13, 2019, at the age of 96 years old. She now joins her loved ones who have preceded her in death; parents, Bennie and Lila Fields; husband, Sam Frierson; one son, Fredia L Willis, Sr. and one daughter, Dorothy Willis; two brothers, Corinthian Fields, Sr. and Alfonzo Fields, Sr.; two sisters, Ardell Fields Smith and Hosie Fields.
Those remaining to cherish her memory: six grandchildren, Fredia Willis Jr. (Starr), Dianna Willis Byrd (Todd), Angelique Willis Moulton (Deverton), Elijah Willis (Jenise), Jeremiah Willis and Sarah Willis; fifteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews; and a host of relatives and longtime friends. Special thanks to Valorie Hudson and Mary King. We call them “Grandma’s Angels.” These two took personal responsibility in caring for Grandma, taking her to doctor’s visits, grocery stores/pharmacies, casino bus trips, etc. Valorie and Mary made sure she had food and anything she needed in our absence. We are forever grateful to them.
“Grandma will be buried with a blank check numbered 61596, as she always wanted money to spend in paradise (casino). The number represents her six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and her 96 years spent living her own adventurous story.”
