

Born on July 4, 1938, in Dallas to Emily Slaton Lewis and Leon Patman Lewis, she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Centenary College in Shreveport, LA, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Linda received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Methodist University and was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church for over sixty years. Linda was a member of The Dallas Woman's Club, Marianne Scruggs Garden Club, Michael Stoner Chapter of the National Society of The Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Colonial Dames of America.
Linda was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband John Hays Haynes, and her daughter Marcia Haynes Colwill. She is survived by her granddaughter Katharine Anne Colwill of Dallas, grandson Matthew James Colwill and wife Lindsay of Austin, and great-grandson John S. Solms III of Dallas. Also surviving are her brothers Capt. John S. Lewis and James P. Lewis and wife Carolyn S. Lewis of Dallas, and nephews Dr. Charles P. Lewis and wife Dr. Jacquetta Blacker of Edina, MN, and Rev. J. Edward Lewis and wife Dr. Caitlin Hodge of Houston. She is also survived by her great-nephew Peter James Lewis.
Linda's family would like to express their deep appreciation for Dr. Steven Leach, Professor of Internal Medicine at UTSW for his compassionate care. In addition, loving appreciation is given to caregivers of the past years, especially Mary Nalukwago, RN, Genet Tesfaye, Meskerme Berme, and Salome Amama of Caring People, and Three Oaks Hospice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 10 am in Cox Chapel of Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX.
A private graveside service for the family will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park, Dallas.
