Life Story…..
Child of God, Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Cousin, and Friend. Born on Wednesday, August 9, 1933. Louise was the fourth child born to Vivian Cunningham and Minnie Ola Cunningham. Louise grew up near Buffalo, Texas and attended the area public schools. After graduating from Dogan High School in 1952, she moved to Dallas at the invitation of her big sister, Roxie who encouraged her to enroll in a nursing school program. She successfully completed the program and worked 58 years as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
She was married to George Richard, Jr. for 36 years and they were proud parents of two sons and five daughters.
Louise was a woman of faith and a prayer warrior. She accepted Christ as a child and served diligently and faithfully in the Dallas area at Greater Peoples Missionary Baptist Church, Golden Gate Baptist Church, and Antioch Fellowship Baptist Church under the late, beloved Pastor, Karry D. Wesley and current beloved Pastor, Chris Wesley who she watched grow up at Antioch. She served on the Mothers Board, Decision Team, and Usher Board Ministries. She was a dedicated member and loved her church family. Louise was always eager to participate in the Senior Prom, the State Fair of Texas outing with the Senior Ministry, and most of all as a breast cancer survivor, attending and being honored at the Breast Cancer Survivors Recognition event. Louise had a beautiful spirit of joy, facing all the challenges of life with grace as she trusted God. She passed her faith on to her children by teaching and encouraging them to accept Christ at an early age. She set a great example in her daily life.
Louise played High School basketball at the point guard position and later coached Girls basketball with a Youth group. She enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s sports and school events and was their biggest cheerleader.
She was an avid sports fan, cheering for all of the local sports teams. She especially enjoyed being a Dallas Cowboy Football season ticket holder for many years and traveled to two Super Bowls to see her favorite team play.
She never wanted to miss a graduation ceremony for anyone in her family. Whether it was a Kindergarten graduation all the way through advanced College degrees, she joyfully celebrated the milestones of loved ones and was intentional about being present to witness the achievements of loved ones.
Louise was very civic minded and enjoyed volunteering at the polls during election season. She also attended local Democratic Caucuses when possible.
Being the joyful, kind, and outgoing person she was, Louise always showed herself friendly to those she would encounter out and about, looking for ways to encourage and bless others. She had a zest for life and was always ready for an adventure. For example, she traveled to Vienna, Austria to witness her granddaughter, sing with an Opera choir. She also learned to swim as an adult with her teenage daughter and was brave enough to dive off the diving board. After years of taking her daughters to piano lessons, she decided to take lessons and performed in several recitals.
On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Louise answered the call of our Lord and Savior and closed her eyes in victory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, Roxie Sephus, Amie Ross, Ammer Ree Cunningham, Clarence Cunningham, Luther Ray Cunningham, Athel Cunningham and Mack Cunningham; former husband, George Richard, Jr; daughter, Shirley Pritchett; infant son, Patrick Richard; granddaughter, Michellequa “Shay” Horn and son-in-love, Billy Wedgeworth.
Louise is forever loved and cherished by her daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Charles Bright, Minnie Michelle and Steven Horn, Glenda and Terrell Bolton, Karen and Michael Sykes, Beverly Wedgeworth, and son Keith Richard; nineteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, many Cunningham and Richard cousins, nieces, nephews and sisters-in-love, Rosie Hyde (Jessie), Joyce Adair, Romona Merritt, Velma Richard and Jewel Richard.
